As female nurses, what do u think about male nurses and why ?

Much like the female nurses that you work with?

I think we were posting at the same time lol

I think a good nurse is a good nurse, where there's a member involved or not!

Yes, but with more facial hair. Usually.

Specializes in Hem/Onc, LTC, AL, Homecare, Mgmt, Psych.

I work with a male CNA that is going to school for his LPN. He told me he initially went into the field "just to meet chicks" but turns out he's awesome at being a CNA and loves his job. From what I observe it's frustrating and flattering for a male to work in a primarily female dominated career.

Specializes in Ortho and Tele med/surg.

I LOVEEEEE THEM!!!!! THANK GOD FOR THEM! With our sometimes RAGING hormones, I can't tell you how great it is.... I get along better with them more than female nurses.

Specializes in Developmental Disabilites,.

love em. We need more male nurses. Some patients just respond better to men so it is great to have male nurses on staff. I don't however think anything more or less of a male nurse.

Specializes in Gerontology.

I think Male Nurses are exactly the same as Female Nurses except you have a member and pee standing up!

This question seems quite odd to me.

If I were to ask a male in any other field how they felt about females functioning as ...whatever...

Not quite right to ask.

I understand your point, but I think in this profession it is ok to ask and converse about a specific gender. Especially when it comes to men. I don't think there is any other field that is so drastically dominated by women, and I think because of that it's a good opportunity to see why that is the case and how the role of men in nursing has evolved/changed/maintained itself. I think it's a good study of society and culture to examine men in nursing.

Male here.

I have found myself appreciated by the women I work with, due to my physical strength, which I have never minded "lending" when asked, until I started having health issues. Then, sadly, I had to learn to limit my lifting. Since I try to be a good team member and help others out as much as possible, and since my coworkers can see I'm not kidding if I say I am in pain and must limit my lifting, they don't seem to have a negative reaction. In fact, they help ME! Wow, talk about embarrassing. Yes, I am old-fashioned that way, and don't like to have to ask anyone for anything, especially lifting help from the ladies! Ah, well, one of life's lessons in aging.

What I have seen is that men often get promoted much more quickly than nurses who are perceived to be possible or probable users of maternity leave, fair or not.

As for those raging hormones, don't forget male menopause. We don't have the monthly fluctuations or pregnancy, post-partum, and the seemingly much more noticeable female menopause, but we do get thrown a curve starting in the 30's, generally. Sadness, some degree of forgetfulness, loss of some muscle, and, of course, hair loss.

And gossip - please don't ever think that we don't do this, ladies. We are only human. Of course, we happily will let you think we are gods, if you like. ;)

Now, OP, why do you ask?

And, Roser13, why should this question not be asked?

Hmmm...a little weired

Prior to becoming an RN I worked as a CNA at a long term care facility. At first, there were no men - but later there were several men CNAs. I found the men to be less moody, and irritating and I would work with them any day - given a choice.

Sadly, many of the elderly are still from the old school of thought that men shouldn't do this job and they refuse to allow a male CNA to assist them. I always think to myself - I wish these people would give these terrific CNAs a chance. They would be pleased with the care that they would receive.

You have the good and bad in all groups of individuals. My experience has been that males in the nursing role are very beneficial and can be just as caring and compassionate in a time of need as a female nurse may be.

Allnurses is being hijacked by too many non nurses asking basic questions. This is a site to be used by nurses and fellow workers, not high school students asking a bunch of questions. If you are interested in becoming a nurse, go to your local jr college and ask them about it. Volunteer at a local hospital. Google how to become a nurse. Google male nurses.

You have posted many questions that are not appropriate for this site. Go to the student nurse area, and lurk there, and read some of their posts for some of your answers. Look up your state Board of Nursing and read up.

Wow! Do I sound like I'm eating my young???
