I am a male nurse. I want to thank you for your thoughts. Most of them were positive. I normally get the response that RaziRN posted. Thanks again!!

Male nurses bring a different pizzaz and perspective to nursing. I find most male nurses quite funny and great to work with. They usually don't b***h and just get on with the job, & crack a few jokes with the patients.
Rock on guys...yeah wish there were more male nurses.
Allnurses is being hijacked by too many non nurses asking basic questions. This is a site to be used by nurses and fellow workers, not high school students asking a bunch of questions. If you are interested in becoming a nurse, go to your local jr college and ask them about it. Volunteer at a local hospital. Google how to become a nurse. Google male nurses. You have posted many questions that are not appropriate for this site. Go to the student nurse area, and lurk there, and read some of their posts for some of your answers. Look up your state Board of Nursing and read up. Wow! Do I sound like I'm eating my young???
I suppose people just get curious and post questions, in the hope they may get an intelligent answer. I myself love history and archaeology and post questions on their sites, but I'm not in either of those professions.
BTW did you really work on a movie set? What movie, where & what was that like??

I like working with other guys, until they start getting all bent out of shape and pissy about being called a 'male nurse'. That is what I am because I am trailblazing in a field in which I'm a minority. By the way, I love my "Rosie the Riveter" lunch box that my friends got me.

Most of the guys that I work with are really over being singled out as an anomaly in their profession and just want to be considered as a nurse. They're already quite aware that they're male.
Can you imagine the screams of "discrimination" if someone asked on a forum for engineers...."What are female engineers like to work with?"

Working with male nurses is great for me. I dont have to worry about them being moody or jealous because jealousy is a female trait. You dont have to worry about gossip only if they are a gay and a flamer. Believe me I experience it. This male nurse always kept things going and even stabbed his best female friend in the back before she lost her job. I had one male nurse who I always went to as a resource nurse. I didnt have any problems at all. In my opinion, I just treat others how I want to be treated first. If that doesnt work I treat people how they treat me. That usually works for me. People start to think with caution first then do what needs to be done.

I too feel that in the year 2010, we should be advancing the non-use of gender in describing any given occupation. Look how far we have come with referring to fire FIGHTERS...mail CARRIERS...police OFFICERS...FLIGHT ATTENDANTS. The term 'actress' is no longer favored by the women of Hollywood, who now refer to themselves as ACTORS.
To preface a reference to any occupation with 'male' or 'female' implies there is something unusual about it. I don't think there's anything 'unusual' about men who have careers in nursing and am totally on the team that says NO to perpetuating its colloquial usage.

Yes, and you're not really speaking good on yourself.
