TIPS/Info for passing NCLEX

Published

Hi,

To everyone who passed recent nclex-rn, can you please share what helped you best (cd's, printed materials, etc..) ? Where to focus? and how did you study/prepare?

thanks... this will help a lot of us who are scheduled to take the exams soon

I think the Kaplan is a waste of time money and energy. I spent so much for the course, only listened to the instructors loud mouth and his constant repetition of the words " Read the Question, read the Question" If you cant deduce the right answer how many times can u read that question.

I took another review course and i passed with 75 questions

Hi nishta please tell me which review you used & what was your studing plan ?I was about to buy kaplan on line review course.

thanks.

I PASSED I PASSED I PASSED. I PASSED THE NCLEX-PN WITH 85 ?'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:balloons::balloons::balloons::balloons::balloons::balloons::balloons::balloons::balloons: HERE IS MY HAPPY DANCE!:monkeydance::monkeydance::monkeydance::monkeydance::monkeydance::monkeydance::monkeydance::monkeydance::monkeydance::monkeydance::monkeydance::monkeydance::monkeydance::monkeydance::monkeydance::monkeydance:

I used Sally's course. The info is on review for nurses.com, and BTW she only charges a third of what kaplan charges.

I would rather take a course and invest money on some good books

dear nishta you did agreat job congratulation:balloons: and thankyou for your help.

If I could reccomend only one book or only one type of questions to do for the NCLEX.. it would definitely be KAPLAN!

That is the only book I used to prepare for the NCLEX and I found out I passed today with 114 questions. Every other NCLEX book was way too easy and it was lower level questions.

Memorize labs, and don't get caught up on learning every single med that is known to man. Because 9 times outta 10 you are going to get meds that you have no idea what they are even if you DID study meds consistently. You just have to pick the answer that seems right.

And also.. I would NOT reccomend people to study 8-10 hours a day and just reread and relearn everythingggg they learned in school. Your brain can only handle so much and eventually you will just get burnt out. Go over the material that you don't understand or if you're missing a certain topic on practice questions a lot ... then go and reread your notes.

congrats luv2shopp85! ive been following your thread.. from the time you post that you got a week left for your nclex till you pass..:)

Hello everyone,

i just found out today via mail that I did not pass the NCLEX-RN.I took it 2 weeks ago and felt I was borderline.I stopped at 188 questions. I've taken Kaplan course, answered all of the questions, including question trainer 1-7 and read the course book 3 times.I had trouble with using their decision tree in the queestion. So, did a couple of my classmates. (although, they passed and would not have required kaplan to anyone). Kaplan is great, but I'm not sure if I should continue with them. My problem is to understand my test taking strategies. I feel that after taking so many of the kaplan questions, i started to memorize what the question was asking and what the answers were. I don't know if I should take the NCSBN course. I read Suzanne's plan and seems that everyone likes her tips. I plan to retake the test after the 45 days is up, which is at the end of sept/2007. should i wait longer to review? i guess i'm anxious. after looking at what i need to work on, it seemed that i was near in passing standard, so i hope the second time around will do. Just very disappointing! but, I'm not giving up!!!

Hey all

Like I have posted in many posts......I loved Kaplan. When I went to take my test as I saw one of my classmates there....she had alread started.....they placed me in my cubicle....I did my thing...went over my Kaplan strategies....wrote all my lab values on the board that they give you......and some other pertinent stuff. My computer shut off at 75 questions.....in about 1 hours 45 mins. I got up and my classmate was still answering questions.....I got up and thought for sure I had failed, you see my classmate was a LPN for 10 years...and did well in class and clinicals....but she was still sitting there answering questions and little ole me (a little above average student ) was finished.

I found out later we both passed...me with 75 questions, she with 265 questions.

I took Kaplan, she did not......................

Kaplan works....but off course you must have content knowledge too.

the majority of my class that took kaplan passed.

ps: we also had a great Kaplan instructor......

Just passed my NCLEX on August 22, 2007. For those looking to prepare, I have two words:

KAPLAN and

MEDICATIONS

In fact, Kaplan has a filebox of medication quiz/flash cards that I used. They are medications commonly found on the exam. There are people who pay $500.00 for the Kaplan NCLEX prep course, and it is very good. I paid $35.00 and got the most recent book of theirs and I think it helped me just as much.

As far as medications go, you really do need to know them for the exam. Everyone's test is different. For example, I had ZERO math calculations on mine. THis was actually disappointing for me because I always get those right. Most of the questions are testing your nursing judgement. The exam people assume you have the knowledge. Now they want to see that you can apply to knowledge and make good nursing decisions. Kaplan's system helps you figure out what the question is REALLY asking and how to rule out all the incorrect or not BEST response answers. I don't know that I would have FAILED without using Kaplan, but I think I would have been a lot more freaked out by the questions. Plus, the box of medication flash cards really are the meds most commonly seen on the exam. Best money I ever spent on both of them. Good luck and let us know how you do!

if il share my advice, id say saunders 70% the rest 30% is for the kaplan question trainer. you got to have content (SAUNDERS) before you can dive in to your answering question strategies(KAPLAN)

you cant form a strategy without having a good content foundation

i have a question for those who took and PASSED nclex rn using kaplan question trainer though...hows 60-65% test results on that question trainer sounds like for the nclex rn preparation?

thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn't pass the NCLEX-RN. I was very upset at first, but ofcourse i will not give up. I'm hoping and praying to pass it the 2nd time. I need to review more, coz i rushed into taking the exam. only had a good review for a month, using NCSBN online & Saunders book. I was in a hurry, and i made a mistake for that. NCLEX was really hard especially the prioritization part. I'm planning to take a review course to prepare me for another test. Which course of KAPLAN is good? as well as, good text books and practice questions? pls HELP! thanks!
