  1. spoke to Hoag recruiter, starting salary for new grad is 29. What other parts of cali are you considering?
  2. thanks for your input. I totally understand where you come from. I lived for 6years (and went to school) in new york city (upper west side). Me and hubby wants to get out of the city so we moved to St. Pete/Tampa. We bought a nice house, live 1 block from the beach, nice weather .... but we do miss the "diversity" of the big city. I went back to NYC for a visit 3x this year, and i miss everything about NEw York (except the weather). I too feel like i don't belong here. So we're thinking of moving to CA. We are going on a trip next month to check the area. I do hope we can find a place that we'll love...
  3. I'm wondering ..... in your hospital, is there a difference in pay between tele nurses and L&D ? I'm in tele right now but is considering L&D. thanks.
  4. is that for BSN or ADN grad? How much is the differential? I looked at the apartments around UCLA and a decent 1 bedroom 650 square feet is between 1300 - 1600. Well, i guess, its still cheaper compare to NYC :) ANy areas that you can recommend closer to UCLA that is cheaper (if there is?) thanks
  5. how much salary they offer a new grad or someone with one year experience?
  6. asan ka sa NY? I graduated there in June 2004, but moved to St. Pete last year. We are also planning to move to SoCal, pref. orange county. Actively looking for the the right place. Where are you in Cali? Thanks!
  7. HI, My advise, having lived in the city for 5 years, is to go for travel nursing. The rent in manhattan for a 1 bed is 2000, if you're lucky. We used to live in the upper west side and love the area (walk to central park is 10 minutes) YOu can go to Astoria or brooklyn for a 1200 1 bed and commute by subway for 20-30 mins. If you work in the east side, then go to astoria. I worked at HSS and a friend works at NYP -- they are one of the best hospitals in the city for travellers. NYU, is also good. The hospital staff are very professional. GOOD luck! I miss NYC a lot, i wont mind going back if i have my own place in the city :) You will love the people -- they are so liberal and driven, yet fun. Of course, the food, nothing beats that! Theres always things to do! Im in Florida now and moving to cali end of this year. Hopefully, it'll be the same experience as NYC.
  8. hi fellow RN's, I'm a tele nurse from Tampa, Florida and planing to relocate in Santa Clarita. I've only been to LA and San Fernando valley so im not really familiar with the area. 1) I spoke to a nurse recruiter at Henry Mayo and was informed that 1 year experienced nurse start at $27. Unfortunately, the hospital doesn't pay for skills and no weekend differential. Is that a good rate in the area? 2) Online search shows expensive housing. Is there any single family below 400k? What are the areas to live that is closer to the hospital? 3) What is the staffing ratio in telemetry or ICU floors? thanks you guys, Please let me know if u have questions about Tampa/St. Pete areas. paula
  9. thanks, do you know how much is the rate for New graduate or RN with 1 year experience? 3 to 1 step down is awesome. We have 6 right now on days. Im so busy all the time.
  10. Tony, thanks for the info. He's right.... we were at south beach area most of the time. I heard the Brickell/downtown area is also nice place to start looking for a place. Will go back again in a month. Nice to know pay is decent. Is your friend working at Jackson memorial? If so, hows the working condition? nurse-patient ratio? thanks again... its been five months since our move and i miss NYC a lot, now that the weather is great
  11. hi, any RN's from miami? thanks, :)
  12. HI all, Just got back from Miami and love the place! It reminds more more of NYC, lots of energy, restaurants are great, lots of people walking (we love to walk). We are considering to move there hopefully next year. Here's my question: 1) How much is the salary for tele/icu nurse with 1 year experience? 2) Where is the best place to buy a place and what hospital would you recommend? thanks guys, if u have questions about NYC, i can answer them for you!
  13. Hi, just moved here from NYC 3 months ago and presently working med tele at Bayfront. I like the unit - nurse manager and staff in general are supportive to new grad like me. Coming from NYC, i had a huge cut -- from $ 35 to $19/hr. But i work 3 days a week so i cant complain. With no state tax, its more or less comparable and low cost of living. If youre husband is a New yorker, he will find the East Manatee area boring. We live near gandy beach, back of weedon preserve, 15 mins commute to bayfront. We paid 275K (brand new) for a 3 bed house overlooking the preserve. I live the area coz we're near the water and 15-20 mins to tampa, st. pete and clearwater. We miss the energy of NYC but there are a lot of activities in St. Pete downtown on weekends compare to downtown tampa. My hubby work at downtown tampa and he doesnt like it there. Its a ghost town on weekends. Coming from NYC, we like downtown st. pete because its pedestrian friendly -- you can walk from star bucks to baywalk to the pier to vinoy park. And as i said, there are lots of cultural and family activities in dtwon stpete. If i were u, if you can afford to buy a house in old NE, go get one there, there are also new townhouses in our area so PM me if you are interested. We like dtown St. Pete a lot. In fact, we just purchased a new condo on central ave and 10th street and will be moving there once it is finished. We want to walk everywhere just like New york city. But that's just us.... hope this helps u.
  14. Hi all, has anyone heard of Morton plant or Bayfront's critical care internship program? I was informed that there is a contract for 2 years and you pay the hospital if you decide to quit. If you are a new graduate, will you do it? is anyone ffamiliar with Morton plant or Bayfront hospital? If you have to choose between the two, which hospital will you consider? thanks a lot for your help
  15. have you tried HSS, beth israel or new york presby? I passed NCLEX last week and started orientation right away. If u dont mind working in Queens, New York hospital queens in flushing is hiring right now -- two of my classmates were offered a job this week. email me if you have any questions..... Goodluck
