Cedars-Sinai
I recently received an offer for a position in Cedars L&D new grad training program and am trying to decide whether or not to accept it. I too have heard that cedars is not the best hospital for welcoming or supporting new grads. However, everyone I met on this unit seemed quite friendly and nice when I was there. The way I figure it, the nursing staff is quite large there so its got to have at least a handful of really great nurses that would also be really great coworkers. You just need to figure out who those really great people are. The unit itself appeared very spacious with tons of great technology. If anyone else has heard anything else about cedars L&D or has worked there themselves, I'd love to hear your thoughts too. Thanks!

Saint John's vs. UCLA for new grad?
I'm looking for a job in women's health...either gyn oncology or mother/baby. I graduate with my BSN this summer and am looking for a hospital that offers a good new grad training program with a good salary or loan forgiveness program. I have a lot of loans to pay off and want to get rid of them asap. I am originally from LA so am familiar with the area hospitals, but not as familiar with their reputations for nurse employment satisfaction or new grad training programs. I've already met the UCLA recruiter and went on an interview there. I just spoke with someone from St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica today. Has anyone worked here before? or know anything about it? Also, does anyone have any comments about working in a community hospital such as St. John's versus a large teaching hospital such as UCLA? any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Advice on UNC Chapel Hill?
I am in the second degree accelerated bsn program at UNC-ch. Have you been accepted to the traditional or accelerated BSN program? Overall, I've been very happy with my education. The reputation is excellent and UNC memorial hospital offers UNC students a work contract to help pay for tuition....not sure why they don't tell the applicants they accept about it until orientation. Chapel Hill is one of the most expensive places to live in NC, but nowhere near the cost of living in CA. I was able to get a great 1 bedroom apt close to campus with all the amentities you could ever want for literally half the price of what it would have cost me in Los Angeles. So...for me, Chapel Hill is really cheap. But everything is relative. I too moved to NC from CA. Have lived in both northern and southern CA, but grew up near L.A. I'm new to the forums so if you can figure out a way to PM me and i can figure out a way to receive it, I'd love to tell you more about the program and the area. I was kind of nervous to pick up and move cross country to go into debt to start a new career, but its all been worth it.
