  1. thanks! There's a litttle struggle applying if you don't have a recent experience. I'm not quite sure if it's only here in SD , SoCal or everywhere. I guess my inquiry is which book presents the subjects better..the content more understandable. .. Etc.
  2. A little background here.. I have earned my degree in 2005, got my RN license in 2008 and stopped working at 2010 for personal reasons. 2016 now and I wanted to go back to nursing. Technically I can work because my license is current. I still renew it even though I'm not actually in the nursing field. Thought That starting off by reading books is a good idea. Particulary medical surgical. I thought that it covers a huge part in nursing education so I would like to start reading this area of nursing. With too many books out in the market, will you please let me know what's the best option? What universities are suggesting? If you have suggestions to read other books related to another subject like Pediatric nursing, Psych, etc.. I would like to hear that too. Need to update! Thanks!
  3. I graduated from OLFU Valenzuela, batch 2005. I took the phil. boards and applied for nclex rn in manila with no problems in eligibility. To answer your question, if it's a good school for nursing. YES, it is. At least when I was there. Their curriculum matched the califronia standard, obviously as I have received eligibility to take the nclex rn. I got to califronia on 2008, applied for work as RN, jot down all my experiences while in school and outside school on my resume and landed a job. My suggestion for you is, go to a nursing school, study hard, pass the exams, get good clinical experience, then apply for a job. Good nursing school is essential but eventhough you're in a good nursing school, that in itself won't make you successful.
  4. hi! i am not from the bay area but i also went to an agency to get an RN job. i was asked a few questions about my experiences and all that and signed a thick paper work that tells how the agency works, some questionnaire about if i took or taking a certain drug or if i have had a certain disease, i also signed in a bank direct deposit form and all that, they also asked me to undergo a drug screen test which they paid for. the lady told me that she'll keep me posted about the job contracts they have. my question is, does this mean that all i have to do is just wait for them to send me to an employer? can i still apply to other employers? this is my first time dealing with an agency and i'm not so sure how does the processing in getting a job through them works. anybody here who got a job through an agency?
  5. and may i add..one factor that its hard to get a call for RNs is the recession..everybody is cutting off their budget. keep the faith, once we're working, it will be continuous
  6. theres a point in the gaps theyre talking about..but i think the best way to be called (atleast) by a recruiter is to state a good flow of your experiences and studies and even the reason of those gaps in your resume..my case is this, i graduated from the PI 2005..got my PI RN license jan 2006, attended a class for nclex for a year which means 2007 of october i took and passed it, take note i was still in the PI here..worked as an RN in PI from 2007-2008..arrived in the US sept of 2008 applied for ssn and i just got the ssn jan of 2009, meaning..i hed the license only on 2009 though i passed the nclex 2007, i dont have the ssn to get d license. all that..i included in my resume in a bulleted form..i believe that the resume is the key to get a call..when you have the interview then you can voice out and explain well everything..but to begin, you have to get the right key
  7. help!!! i still have no job right now..still waiting..still praying since i started applying for an RN I or new grad position..thats been already over 2 months ago
  8. i went to this staffing agency and filed papers and all that, then they gave me a so called "competency test" of 47 items. i got 55% and it is failed has anybody here worked with this agency? i wonder what does it mean if i fail that competency test they have..theres another test called "comprehensive core - new hire" man! i dont know what to feel..im sad but i really dont know.
  9. i'm having thoughts that maybe informing the BON can help. i know its about the recession and cutting off the budget but for new grads? i mean, there should be a place to start applying what you have learned from school after you graduate. even if it means no pay for quite sometime but thing is, slots for our class is so hard to get. im not a new grad but my year of exeprience was from the philippines and still its hard to get a job. keep applying, the good side is atleast us, we've done all the exams and all we have to do is get an employer who'll hire us, unlike others who still strives to pass the nclex.
  10. anybody here applied at sharps new grad residency prog? did you made a portfolio? i just wanted to ask something about it, heres the copy of the requirements application process (required) to apply for a new grad program, you must submit a new grad rn portfolio. the portfolio requires the following information: submit your application. - what application? is there a form of some kind? if there is where can i get it submit your résumé. please include clinical placements and hours, as well as work/volunteer information. submit a cover letter. complete the supplemental information form. - what supplemental info you added? and how you made it provide two clinical letters of references from your preceptors, instructors or clinical facilitators. you should also provide one professional/volunteer letter of reference (if applicable). - is this simply references that you added with the resume? what clinical letters? provide a copy of your most recent unofficial transcript (does not require official seal). there you go..hope my questions will be answered. i would like to submit a portfolio of application to their feb 2010 grad program. tnx!
  11. i formally started hunting for jobs last may, so its almost 2 months that i dont have it..you too, manang biday! im happy to hear your blessed to have found a job after 6 months of looking.
  12. i can understand and feel your struggle from your words but you know what? alot of nurses out there who are jobless, wishes to even have atleast the kind of job you have right now. i know its hard but you are blessed to already land a job in this time of crisis. i myself is a new grad, looking for a job..any RN position as long as im actively working as a nurse and the fact that you already get yours, not just i but for sure alot of nurses like me would say that you are already blessed, embrace it.
  13. thank you so much. are you a new grad applicant as well?
  14. i checked the childrens hospital in LA, i called them and the HR told me that theres no application YET. does anybody here called them?
