Hi,
To everyone who passed recent nclex-rn, can you please share what helped you best (cd's, printed materials, etc..) ? Where to focus? and how did you study/prepare?
thanks... this will help a lot of us who are scheduled to take the exams soon
I used Davis NCLEX review by sally lagerquist who gives one on one advice about how and what to study over the phone when u buy the book. I would say just focus on questions do as many questions as u can and really read the rationales for the ones u get right and especially the ones u get wrong and make sure u understand why u got the question wrong u will remember and wont miss it again and similar qustions or questions with the same information in them will be on the NCLEX
check out the sticky at the top of the thread called new revised first tip of suzanne's plan. that is what im using now. i will bea taking nclex a third time and the last. try it out. alot of people has passed using her plan.
Do I have to read Saunders Comprehensive Review book cover to cover? I have lots of cds but don't know what is the best for review. I only have 2 months to go for NCLEX.This is my 3rd try. Please advise me what to do. Do I need to reschedule it? I really want to pass this time.
HAVE YOU TRIED SUZANNE'S PLAN? IF NOT, READ THE FIRST TIP ON TOP OF THIS THREAD THAT SAYS, SUZANNE'S PLAN. I PASSED AT 75 ON MY 2ND TRY.
I can not pass this test. I have taken it 3 times every time 265 questions and all 3 times I failed. I feel like a moron. There are people I tutored who have passed first time and here I am not passing 3 TIMES! I did Kaplan, according to their exit exam i was a shoo-in to pass the NCLEX. FOr whatever reason I just cant pass the exam.

i would check the sticky at top of thread new revised first tip of suzanne's plan. i am using it i will be taking it a 3x in oct. keep your head and have faith , believe and you will succeed. we never know why god puts us in theses situations but, know he knows what should happen in our future that we will never know because we did everything would be easy. stay determined and god will follow thorough don't give up.
just found out this morning i passed using suzanne plan only. good luck to all and don't give up on god he came through for me as well as he can you.
That stinks, Zona :crash_com....I'm so sorry to hear about that. Perhaps your school has a problem with preparing it's students for the NCLEX - in other words, maybe it's not you. Would you happen to know the pass rates for your school?
Well that is absolutely certain. Our school, even those who passed first time agree was not good. The clinical instructors for the most part were pretty solid but the classroom instruction was poor. Still, as a student it is my responsiblity to learn the material presented regardless of the instructor. I feel I can improve in some areas but the questions they ask on the NCLEX often times it feels as though it as nothing to do with content. I excel at the math part of it. I hope to god I get math questions because that is like second nature to me. I do have some trouble with which client to see first.........because sometimes the ABC's simply dont work. I also have issues with the "what would you say to a patient or family member...." because I would never say any of the choices at all. I know you never ask "Why" and you dont use close ended questions like yes or no, but sometimes it seems like 2 of the answers are fine.
Also, I graduated from an ASN program, and we never had a Pharmacology class. I need work on my meds for sure. But with meds and stuff how is it possible to recall all side effects and what they are. I know the simple stuff like if it ends in olol its a Beta blocker and what not, but there are so many meds, so many side effects, so many uses, just seems overwhelming. I just need more studying, more questions to answer.
I have Saunders comprehensive review for the Nclex-RN examination third edition, Saunders Q&A Review for the NClex-Rn Examination, both with accompanying CD's. Also hae Kaplans book as I took the Kaplan classes for test #2 and did well in it but failed the exam. Also have a couple hand-held books, one a review of NClex and one is a Pharmacolgy book. And last but not least a HEsi book which is similar to Kaplan.
I prefer using Saunders because it provides more explanaiton about things compared to kaplan and hesi which basically are just lists of things to recall with no explanation. I just failed so I basically ahve nutil the beginning of December before I can take it again so thats a minimum of 6 weeks. Not sure how much to study per night or how many questions. I wanna be able to learn but not get so burnt out i cant see straight. I will do anything to pass though. I dont care if i have to spend 4-5 hours per night studying.
Another issue I am concerned with is:
Ok I graduated last year. So basically Ill be looking for a job a year after I graduated which I think looks really bad. How do i go about even getting a job if i do pass? Do i say "oh i couldnt pass the exam in which case they think im a moron and dont want to hire me. Do I say I was working another job because i had a committment to finish it which is kind of true becasue my uncle employs me and i still plan on working for him even when i become a nurse on the side for extra income. Do employers knwo how many times i took the nclex? is that private knowledge or do they get that info?
