I know there are other threads, but I was wondering what my fellow school nurses thought of this topic that has been blowing up my Facebook newsfeed.
On my page, I wrote:
"I can't think of a day in nursing that I DIDN'T use my stethoscope.
As the school nurse, there's no doctor on call and no other medical professional in the building. I have an obligation to the parents of an asthmatic child or a student having an allergic reaction to rely on my education to make the call of how to treat in my office or decide if an ER visit is necessary.
Hopefully, this will bring some light to those who don't understand the importance of the nurse's assessment."
My thoughts are that the women on The View are uneducated and ignorant. I actually found it comical that she thought only doctors use stethoscopes. I guess nothing else matters to rich and snobby women than sitting around gossiping. At least we as nurses make a difference in many lives and we get the positive satisfaction that comes out of it. Nothing positive comes out of bashing other women or our noble profession.
I don't watch the view & have no plans to start. But it seems to me that my news feed has a story about them at least every other week, where one of them has said something incredibly stupid/insulting/ignorant and they spend the next week or so trying to explain how "they didn't mean it the way it sounded".
Maybe if you have a 'talk' show, you should actually know what you're talking about OR at least think before you talk?
I have a nice littman with an electronic amplifier that my dad (God rest his soul) bought for me right before he passed on 8 years ago. It has my name engraved on it. Once a Dr tried to walk off with it after asking to check it out. He became adamant that it was his in front of my manager, who acted like it was his and my behavior was unbelievable. I flipped up the name and said "unless you're Nancy Nurse, RN" this is not your scope. He handed it back to me and walked off. My manager then had the cajones to ask how I could afford such a nice one...grrr...just glad I got it back

EWWWW. That bothers me! All of it.
What about a doctor's salary, Flare?I don't watch The View. Or Miss America.
I have a Littman. I have 2, actually.
I have a Littman, actually I have two
They come in a box, much like a shoe
With them I can hear, within their bounds
Both lubb and dubb, those cute little heart sounds
I am not a doctor, nor will I ever claim to be
When you need a caring hand, my face you'll see
A woman who can carry, much more than a purse
Educated and proud, best recognize Joy, I am a Nurse

ArlyleRN has a sweet side!
This is adorable.
How do you think a car mechanic feels? I have seen them use a stethoscope to hear various sounds in the motor. Now they're gonna ask where is his Doctor's stethoscope is. Poor car mechanic!!
Whether you're a Doctor, Nurse etc, we're all equal!!
It makes me laugh when a cousin of mine asked me to call him Doctor. I said, i don't care that your title is doctor just because Daddy donated millions to the school to make you pass. A friend of ours always told restaurants and hotels he was " Dr" just so he can get treated better. If you came in my restaurant and told me your Dr Smith, I would say, you are no different than anyone else. You think you got a Golden member?
The "apology " was just as ignorant as the comment itself. It's not as though the nurse was dressed in a sexy nurse halloween costume. It was scrubs which should have given her an immediate clue that this is not a costume. If you value bikinis and dresses over scrubs and stethoscopes, then your priorities are all screwy. I didn't see the clip but did they have it muffled or on mute? Why did she not know what the nurse was saying? It would have been one thing if she even said .. "Oh , is this girl a doctor ?" In all seriousness. That would be genuine ignorance (non malicious.) Ive watched the view a few times before and felt so gross and had a headache after and already previously decided not to waste time on that crap anymore and I'm proud of my decision. I am glad for all this love from huge companies deciding to withdraw advertisements. Maybe they'll go off the air soon and reassess themselves.

I never thought highly of the show or the women on it. It was stupid on their part and Joy's "apology" is insincere and full of excuses. She's an idiot. I'm just thankful I don't work with her everyday!
