QuoteThe abortion law builds on legislation passed in 2010 that represented a major shift for a traditionally Catholic country, transforming Spain into one of the most progressive countries in Europe on reproductive rights. Spain's constitutional court last week rejected a challenge by the right-wing Popular Party against allowing abortions in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.
The debate will be heated in Spain, I imagine, as the conservative opposition pushes back. My daughter had horrible menstrual pain during her adolescence and young adulthood. I'm certain that she would have benefitted from that time.

All politicians play politics, like when Republicans play politics about immigration and border control. Our politics include lots and lots of dishonesty right now. There is dishonesty on both sides of the political spectrum but only one side of the spectrum is fully committed to the political strategies of a man who is so dishonest that it is a pathologic feature of his mental illness.
It's funny when Trump voters pretend to be bothered by politicians playing politics.
QuoteAs for the findings of the report, recommendations included the following:
Development of a dashboard reporting key maternal health indicators
Evaluation of Medicaid reimbursement rates
Implementation of "presumptive" eligibility for Medicaid-eligible pregnant women
Creation of a pathway used for Medicaid provider types, along with reimbursements for Doulas and community health workers
Expansion of obstetrics and gynecology residencies in Arkansas
Development of a maternal health education and advertising campaign
Notably absent is a recommendation to extend postpartum coverage to one year under a Medicaid program. Currently, the state provides coverage for 60 days despite an option provided through the American Rescue Plan Act to extend to a full year.
Elisabeth Burak, senior fellow at Georgetown Center for Children and Families, told the Associated Press that not pursuing that extension is a "flagrant omission."
"It's great to see that there's a priority on this. But if you have a priority truly on maternal health, then why not do something that you've got this easy option to do and keep women whole with coverage during a stressful time in their life, and that research supports?” Burak said.
Frankly, Arkansas can't really do worse in this area.

I think traditionally in some businesses it was expected to take calls and check emails off hours, not necessarily at 2AM.
Work life balance is a huge thing, especially with the upcoming Gen Z workers. Tik Tok influencers and other social media platforms are convincing them that the boss is the enemy and they owe nothing to their job particularly on their days off and staying late to complete a task is the worst thing you can do for your employer. Covering a shift on your day off is also one of the most horrific things a boss can ask of you.
I think there should be a balance. It's too bad they have to have a law to not expect someone to work on vacation. But also when I see a call from my boss on the day off, I'll answer and usually it's just a question about some event that happened while I was there or to give me some information. Sometimes meetings are on my day off and I'll go in. I stay late practically every shift.
Some people don't want the slightest inconvenience and some boss's expect too much.
Biden criticized for not commenting on Brazil ban of the social media site "X"

Why do we care that the ex official is criticizing us? Oh wait. The article says a couple times that the White House didn't respond to request for comment. That makes it seem like they, indeed, don't care.
Fox News cares, though.

I think they're just digging for a gotcha. I gave up on Fox back around the turn of the century, so that's just a guess. This one is marginally less irrelevant than the whole Kamala's accent thing, but not by much.
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/09/06/us/texas-abortion-medical-records.html
QuoteTexas has sued to block federal rules that prohibit investigators from viewing the medical records of women who travel out of state to seek abortions where the procedure is legal.
The lawsuit, filed on Wednesday in Federal District Court in Lubbock, targets medical privacy regulations that were issued in 2000, and takes aim at a rule issued in April that specifically bans disclosing medical records for criminal or civil investigations into "the mere act of seeking, obtaining, providing or facilitating reproductive health care.”
QuoteThe lawsuit claims that the privacy rules ignore federal law that lets states view medical records "for law enforcement purposes.”
QuoteIn a statement on Wednesday, Texas' attorney general, Ken Paxton, called the April rule "a backdoor attempt at weakening Texas' laws.” He added: "The Biden administration's motive is clear: to subvert lawful state investigations on issues that the courts have said the states may investigate.”
The Texas AG is trying to subvert the privacy protections of the US constitution and then tried to gas light the American public. I think the entire GOP is dishonest and untrustworthy in the era of Trump.
I got an anti vaccine email from the Florida Department of Health yesterday. I thought it was a scam and did a deeper dive.
It seems to be against the mRNA vaccines.
QuoteBased on the high rate of global immunity and currently available data, the State Surgeon General advises against the use of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines. Any provider concerned about the health risks associated with COVID-19 for patients over the age of 65 or with underlying health conditions should prioritize patient access to non-mRNA COVID-19 vaccines and treatment.

That just seems so weird to me.
