QuoteThe abortion law builds on legislation passed in 2010 that represented a major shift for a traditionally Catholic country, transforming Spain into one of the most progressive countries in Europe on reproductive rights. Spain's constitutional court last week rejected a challenge by the right-wing Popular Party against allowing abortions in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.
The debate will be heated in Spain, I imagine, as the conservative opposition pushes back. My daughter had horrible menstrual pain during her adolescence and young adulthood. I'm certain that she would have benefitted from that time.

I was asking you to elaborate as to your idea why Democrats are not voting for a citizenship law. The Republican supermajority here passed such a law without democrat support. What's your thoughts on why the Democrats were against it?
Are illegals voting in such numbers they are swaying the seats to Democrats? Not here in FL where DeSantis says we have the best voting system in the country. Republicans won in large numbers and DeSantis won by a whopping 19%. In 2022 Republicans won 20 of 28 seats in the house up for vote. They have the biggest majority in Florida history. Yet in 2024 due to Biden's border crisis they decided to pass a citizenship law when we already have a citizenship law.
What's this about?
Crusades said:Removing inappropriate books from the hands of children isn't banning the book. It's making books that children should not have access to. Not removing books from all media and preventing everyone from reading them.
But sure. Strict adherence to a definition is another example of propaganda and fallacy
Banning books by the government to prevent all citizens from accessing them (like in Nazi Germany )isn't even near the same as banning books from school libraries.
So yes both are "banning books" but they are not even remotely the same. Unless you believe it's the same as Nazis banning books that do not dehumanized jews and anything that doesn't support nazi ideology. The same as banning books from libraries?
You are trying hard to make it seem like it's not banning books.

It's religious extreemism to not want children to have access to inappropriate material?
Clearly you think it's justified. You've been convinced.
If school board members are elected and the elected body makes the decisions is it a "branch" of your local government or just a club. The children attend voluntarily and financial support isn't mandated?

I addressed this in another post.

I'm not trying to argue whether the law is necessary or not. You said the Republicans are just playing politics with this issue. And, they are. My point is that the Democrats are just as much. If the law won't do anything or is unnecessary, the Dems should just agree to it to get the bill passed. But, they don't want to.
Whenever some legislation gets held up, it's always because the Republicans are playing politics. Many here can't see through their liberal tinted glasses that the Democrats do the same.
Democrats get acused of playing politics all the time, like after a mass shooting or student loan forgiveness.
As to the topic, I can't agree they should just support the unnecessary bill.

Your first paragraph is, to quote TMB, baloney.
To answer your question, yes it is. That's because in order to enforce their own views, book banners define anything outside their personal world view as "inappropriate" and seek to make it disappear from reality so they don't have to talk to their own kids.
Beerman said:You really think the only reason Democrats are so strongly against legislation is because "we don't it"?
Why do we need a new law? Proof of citizenship is required for federal elections. I have already had to prove citizenship in 3 states. I totally agree with you that people are here in the US let in my Ronald Reagan's lax amnesty laws. But the question of whether the perpetrators of the crimes in Aurora are here illegally or are here because of Ronald Reagan's lax amnesty policy. Republicans who fight sending adults back who came here as children. Perhaps you have some information whether these are illegals or not. YOUR guys are the ones that shot down the plan to keep amnesty seekers in Mexico. It was one of the more cynical things MAGA has done. How did they make America great by voting against that? It wasn't perfect enough for them or they need to kiss the ring of DT?

It has nothing to do with Trump. It's about looking at facts and fotmulating a reasonable opinion.
It seems you, on the other hand, do base your opinion on what Trump says. If he says the sky is blue, the sky can't possibly be blue.
Deflection, LOL
When Trump says the sky is blue, I only have to look for myself to see if he is, once again, lying. Most of Trump's lies are simplistic and easily debunked.
It might seem that I base my opinion on that which is directly contrary to what Trump says but really, I just base my opinions on readily available evidence or data and use critical thinking and logic to understand that Trump is mentally ill and unfit to serve in a political office. Trump displays pathological dishonesty and lack of empathy as two of his core symptoms, is always a bit unnerving to understand that people can't see those obvious character flaws.

I think it's more about pictures of strap on, illustrations of masterbation and graphic depictions of sex.
I don't think one has to be a "religious extreemist" to know that this type of material isn't appropriate for children.

That's definitely what they want you to think.
