QuoteThe abortion law builds on legislation passed in 2010 that represented a major shift for a traditionally Catholic country, transforming Spain into one of the most progressive countries in Europe on reproductive rights. Spain's constitutional court last week rejected a challenge by the right-wing Popular Party against allowing abortions in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.
The debate will be heated in Spain, I imagine, as the conservative opposition pushes back. My daughter had horrible menstrual pain during her adolescence and young adulthood. I'm certain that she would have benefitted from that time.
Here's the article to the picture above. No mention as to the angle of "Make America Safe Again" and what that means.
I would wager that if it were Biden the calls for gun control would be very loud. There has been a trickle of that but mostly it's a "you reap what you sow" kind of attitude that I'm seeing since Republicans are the big promoters of guns despite violence.
There has been more discussion about ending polarization and rhetoric. Which republicans are blaming more than access to guns. This might be a good thing. But it's probably mostly hot air from both sides, but I think it's also coming internationally as well.

As you mentioned before, we are a violent society and some of our political activists use anger and outrage to motivate their audience so, there's a feeling of inevitability. We even have one side of the political argument talking about inevitable civil war.
The shooting also opened a big window of question about what in the world is going on with our Secret Service. I've had some serious questions since Obama's presidency. When the secret service deleted all of the text messages relevant to the active 010621 investigation the questions got bigger. Now we have reports that the security detail didn't even clear nearby rooftops and were slow to respond to reports of a man with a rifle on a rooftop.
The director of the SS will be answering some questions about this in a House hearing. I'm looking forward to contrasting the questions from the committee members. It should be entertaining.
The shooter apparently was out of the Secret Service's security perimeter and shot from afar. But it might spark some changes in security.

Fair enough and I'll stand corrected as the article was published July 12th. The article showed up in my Google news feed, today for some reason and when I clicked it on my phone briefly (I was stuck in a traffic jam) I thought it was published today. But now that I'm home reading it I see July 12th. Thanks for pointing that out.
Note to self: Do not post while in traffic.
So without the context of the Trump shooting what does it mean? Are they talking about defense, in country violence, what?

A "dreadful event" because it might risk Trump being a "sympathetic character"? That's the only dread you have. Or that the shooter missed, not sure.?
Even when a human being almost get a gun shot to the head it's too hard not to deflect to something else. The comment about the SS deleting text messages or whatever.
Tweety said:Perhaps in the short term it will. Politicians are already calling it a "attack from the left" which will demonize the left and raise the status of Trump. MAGA people that already worship the upstanding Christian Patriot Victim that is Trump will only worship him more.
At the end of the day, no matter how it's politicized by right and left it's a dreadful event.

Poor, poor Trump. Shot at 153 yards with an AR-15 by a Republican kid one year out of teenagehood. How ironic.

Trump didn't deserve this. As much as I loath him as a person I can't find it in me to mock his shooting. Most of my commentary is coming from his followers.
The shooter had donated to a Democrat organization, but yeah he was a registered Republican and a gun lover. Guess we won't really ever know what was going on his his head.
Today I read, "When you try and kill God's angels and saviors of the world it just makes them bigger.” Is it any wonder "cult" is used about these people.

The biblical referenced are ridiculous. Where was the Devine intervention for the innocent man killed?
Perhaps there's something to take from this. A Devine message? Probably not but....
A registered republican voter who most recently donated to a progressive Democrat organization may be interpreted as a sign that instead of polarizing us further, it could be a call for unity? Hopefully we can learn some lessons.
I have a feeling that it will come out that another person of the same name was a registered republican. As for a gun lover I heard this is because of a shirt he was wearing that alloted to a gun group.
Who knows but there will be allot of rhet

Nothing has changed that realities that Trump failed the leadership test with covid and then tried to retain lost power through unconstitutional means.
Since my vote is a vote against Trump more than it's a vote for Biden, I'll vote for the Biden team as long as it's the opposition to the Trump team. In my view, it would be foolish for Biden to step aside before the election. Biden would likely endorse Harris in that event and he doesn't need to upset the campaign applecart to make that transition. Our entire political system is setup to accommodate the change of chief executive in the middle of a presidential administration. We've done it without chaos or collapse a dozen or more times.
I agree that the attempt by the GOP to gas light the entire country that Biden has dementia didn't enjoy the success that the messaging achieved among Trump's faithful supporters. My guess is that the Trump campaign will pivot now and the shooting will become the forefront motivator for voting against Biden and liberals. Trump will be a real hero martyr for MAGA.
Well it's not just the GOP "gas lighting" Biden's cognitive decline. Are you saying some democrats and left MSM are not complicit to this propaganda and gasslighting?
I think you gas lit yourself. It's much more than age related cognitive change. Even if it was, it significant.

Yep who knows. But wearing that t-shirt and being in possession of the gun itself kind of makes me think he was a gun-lover and I think that's a reasonable assumption because people tend to wear t-shirts that align with them personally don't you think? But it is a stretch since we don't know. I think it's being said he was bullied and a loner in high school.

Has it been confirmed that the donation came from the shooter and not one of the many other people with that name in the state? I read a report that his father is republican and his mother is a Democrat, so maybe he feels conflicted.
We agree that political violence is not the way that we will resolve our differences.
This is a very strange assassination attempt.

That will be an interesting pivot but I doubt they will suggest that the shooting means that they should enact gun reform.
