QuoteThe abortion law builds on legislation passed in 2010 that represented a major shift for a traditionally Catholic country, transforming Spain into one of the most progressive countries in Europe on reproductive rights. Spain's constitutional court last week rejected a challenge by the right-wing Popular Party against allowing abortions in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.
The debate will be heated in Spain, I imagine, as the conservative opposition pushes back. My daughter had horrible menstrual pain during her adolescence and young adulthood. I'm certain that she would have benefitted from that time.

I read an excerpt from Abbott this morning when he was asked about what happened and if someone dropped the ball. He compared it to a losing football team pointing fingers and laying blame after losing and suggested that they aren't that losing team.
It made me wonder if he thought this is like the aftermath of winning a big contest?
Texas Flash Flood Is a Preview of Climate Chaos to Come — ProPublica https://share.Google/gQQa9im8QQzYyL4vI
QuoteThat the United States once again is reeling from familiar but alarming headlines and body counts should not be a surprise by now. According to the World Meteorological Organization, the number of extreme weather disasters has jumped fivefold worldwide over the past 50 years, and the number of deaths has nearly tripled. In the United States, which prefers to measure its losses in dollars, the damage from major storms was more than $180 billion last year, nearly 10 times the average annual toll during the 1980s, after accounting for inflation. These storms have now cost Americans nearly $3 trillion. Meanwhile, the number of annual major disasters has grown sevenfold. Fatalities in billion-dollar storms last year alone were nearly equal to the number of such deaths counted by the federal government in the 20 years between 1980 and 2000.
The reality that other countries count the number of deaths as the measure of the disaster and the USA measures it in dollars of damage to property is symbolic and representative.

I don't think that's fair. The death toll in Texas is widely reported and known.
I just read an article about German floods causing over 1 billion Euros to the Insurance Industry.
Death tolls and costs are reported. I read lists of the most deadly disasters and lists of the most costly.
Usually when people are rebuilding is the cost reported more widely that the already long passed death toll. At least from what I've seen here.

Sure. We talk about deaths but we don't necessarily make changes because of deaths. If we did, we would have national gun laws and Kerr County would have the flash flood warning system that they know they need.

I read that the county board turned down a siren system because it cost too much. I see posts online that people think that people would sleep through the sirens. I don't listen to the chatter of fault findings except when the victims are blamed . That, and Leavett blaming it on God...that gets my attention. I lived near a nuclear power plant and can testify that only the dead cannot hear those sirens. After 9/11 they were tested often and drug stores made iodine tablets readily available. These are the kinds of measures I saw that only a govermental authority can make happen. To watch our president blame God and destroy the weather reporting system at the same time sounds just crazy talk.

Just watch him make public remarks and one can see that he is mentally ill and unwell. He recently abruptly started talking about gold leaf on architectural features out of nowhere. He looks like he's barely able to keep his eyes open in many videos of his meetings. I think his primary duties are redecorating the White House and the grounds. He places lots of importance on those things.

I don't believe the federal government gives any retirement relief for taxes. For many retirees state taxes are an issue and people will seek low state tax relief. Why people actually choose to retire in Nevada...whether there is water or not:)

The member I was replying to implied that the new law in regards to SS tax was irrelevant to her as PA was already "tax friendly".
As to your post, the new law increases the number of folks who do not have to pay federal tax on their SS income.

I don't qualify for that tax break.
