The abortion law builds on legislation passed in 2010 that represented a major shift for a traditionally Catholic country, transforming Spain into one of the most progressive countries in Europe on reproductive rights. Spain's constitutional court last week rejected a challenge by the right-wing Popular Party against allowing abortions in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.

The debate will be heated in Spain, I imagine, as the conservative opposition pushes back. My daughter had horrible menstrual pain during her adolescence and young adulthood.  I'm certain that she would have benefitted from that time.

Listen to Lutnick talk about how honest Americans will not complain if social security checks don't go out at 41:30. He then talks about how it's unacceptable for people to receive disability assistance for 50 years.  I guess the disabled should die more quickly.

Unbelievable.

Fascism is always cruel.

They are liars.  Denial is breathing to them.

Lutnick is the ideal Trump appointee.  He's a malignant narcissist and stupid.  He can't even picture that a young kid has a serious injury from an auto accident and lives to need disability for 50 years.  He's out of touch with reality.  I paid into the SS system for over 44 years and this guy thinks I'm dishonest for receiving a check?  Geez.  Another person I have to put a hex on?

NPR had a piece about "The Sin of Empathy" where Christians believe that being empathetic is wrong because you might be empathetic towards the queer community and their rights for one thing.

Personally, I think this is toxic Christian Nationalism at its best.  I'm a nurse so I'm naturally empathetic, although I wouldn't describe myself as an empath in personality.  I'm more of a realist.

Musk is even in on it.

As a threat: In a recent appearance on the Joe Rogan podcast, Elon Musk described empathy as the "fundamental weakness of Western civilization" and (like Rigney) expressed concern about "weaponized empathy" or, as he also describes it, "the empathy exploit.”

Britain joins countries like Germany and Denmark with travel advisory warnings in traveling to the United States.

One consequence I heard on NPR was that travel was revised from a 9% increase in international travel to a 5% decrease, costing the industry 65ish billion dollars in loss.

Fox News is giving considerable air time to Musk interviews and the vandalism against Tesla owners, dealerships and charging stations.  I say this because I often see it in patient's rooms and the gym.

The big takeaway is that liberals are supposed to the the party of peace and compassion.

I will never say the vandalism is okay.  I don't blame Musk or Fox News for their criticism of hypocrisy and it helps no one.

But my thoughts are with the people's whose livelihoods have been disrupted.  Despite the drops in Tesla sales and stock, as of this writing Musk remains the richest man in the world as he has his hands in so many pots (and government contracts).  I'm not sorry of the hate coming his way personally as he brought it on himself.  It could have gone differently for him.  He could have made cuts without lies, demonizing people and agencies, etc.   He could have shown some empathy, understanding and compassion but I really don't think he has it in him.  He's having a "we reap what we sow" moment while taking it to the bank.

The propaganda is necessary.  The media needs to keep the masses calm and sympathetic to the dismantling of the things which might have made the USA "great" for them.

It's remarkable how easy it was for the American population to be convinced that their republic needed to be fundamentally changed and that empathy is bad.

No one who lived through the 70's seriously believes that "the left" has ever been free of violence. Violence and peace are both choices, as are greed, hypocrisy, racism, empathy, honesty, fairness and so on. What's obvious to me is that right wingnuts and other bullies are depending on the rest of us always choosing peace and fairness to shield them from the consequences of their behavior.

"Pentagon Set Up Briefing for Musk on Potential War With China"

Administration adamantly denies this, so why does the headline above remain?

New York Times is garbage.

"Hours after news of the planned meeting was published by The New York Times, Pentagon officials and President Trump denied that the session would be about military plans involving China. "China will not even be mentioned or discussed,” Mr. Trump said in a late-night social media post."

Perhaps because the administration lies and makes up thingson the daily.  Because of this I'd be tempted to believe the NYT.

Musk has billions in contracts with the military.  I'm really just not comfortable with him in high level meetings with them.  Is he there as a salesman or is here there because of all the waste, fraud and overspending that he needs to cut?

Apparently after the story broke from the times his agenda at the Pentagon changed.

If there was nothing going on why is he worried about a leak of information?

Quote

Musk went so far as to suggest there should be prosecutions of anyone at the Pentagon who may have leaked information.

"They will be found," Musk wrote on X.

The meeting between Musk and the Joint Chiefs was to be at the unclassified level and attended virtually by Adm. Sam Paparo, the commander of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, one official said. But some time between the publication of The New York Times story on Thursday and Musk's visit to the Pentagon Friday morning, the visit turned into just a meeting with Hegseth.

Tax revenue could drop by 10 percent amid turmoil at IRS

Staff cuts and disruptions related to the U.S. DOGE Service have officials bracing for a sharp loss of revenue.

Quote

Senior tax officials are bracing for a sharp drop in revenue collected this Spring, as an increasing number of individuals and businesses spurn filing their taxes or attempt to skip paying balances owed to the Internal Revenue Service, according to three people with knowledge of tax projections.

Quote

Senior IRS officials attempted to warn the Trump transition team about the effects of planned staffing and budget cuts at the agency, according to other records, obtained by The Post through the Freedom of Information Act. On top of the DOGE-driven workforce reductions, congressional Republicans also repealed $20.2 billion in resources for the agency as part of a recent government funding law.

We go from thoughts and prayers when a person shoots up a school to "domestic terrorism" with Tesla vandalism.  Vance was interviewed the other day saying that those that destroy property should go to jail and the reporter called him out for those destroying property on January 6th going free.

Interesting times.

This is just stunning, isn't it?  We shouldn't be stunned by this repetitively ignorant and bad behavior, but we are.  Maybe it's the belligerently recalcitrant nature of this behavior that is so surprising.
