For 2 classes, A&P I and Foundations of Nursing it's $1300 for the semester.
After I passed out [lol] I was thinking...is that average? I have to request more loan money now.

My first semester did about that much damage. Think that was with uniforms too (they sell them at the bookstore so it was all one trip for me). But A&P was a prereq for our program so I was done with that book by nursing school. Good news was it has gotten tons cheaper every subsequent semester!

Yep, sounds about right, Abby. The books cost a mint, weigh a few tons, and read like the dictionary.

If your program is anything like mine, yes. And those books will follow you until you're done with the program. I only had to buy three more books this semester and that's it for the rest of the program, unless I decide to buy any of the recommended texts I don't have.
It's a serious outlay in the beginning but hopefully they do it the same way my school does. Otherwise OUCH!

Abby:
Try looking on amazon.com or half.com or even Ebay for those books.
Normally you can get them cheaper then paying in a bookstore!
And yeap, its an average cost of how much i paid for books too..

Fundamentals was by far the most expensive semester for me also, because of the required drug guides and medical dictionary. I also made the mistake of buying the "recommended" books, which I never read, and ended up selling on eBay. (Like "How to survive Nursing School") I advise not getting any of those, just because you will be SO busy with your required reading, any time you do have you won't want to spend reading MORE nursing stuff! LOL
If you can get used, do that, and the campus bookstores charge WAY more than you can get them for on eBay or some of the other textbook resellers. The mark-up at my college is unreal. I wouldn't buy a pen there!
Another word about books that a friend of mine just told me, as she was borrowing my Fundamentals books - DON'T sell them until after you've taken a review course, if you're going to sell them at all! She had sold all of her Fundamentals books, and ended up needing them for her NCLEX-prep course, along with her notes from class. Luckily I'm just using Med/Surg books now, and she could borrow mine, but you do refer back to even the Fundamentals ones quite a bit even in your later nursing courses.

that just seems like an insane amount of money. My first semester books - which will be pretty much all I need for the next two years are under 600.00 and the current anatomy book is 135.00. I looked at those 600.00 worth of books on Amazon.com and was able to get them for around 400.00 even getting the correct editions - and for anatomy see if you can get a old edition of the text - it will save you at least 100.00.

Definately look online first. I enrolled in Barnes & Noble membership program to get a savings on books. check their website at http://www.bn.com between them and amazon you should be able to find them cheaper.

Is this ho wmuch the whole class costs, or just your books. My A&P book was $224 and was used for both A&P 1 and 2.

Buy used! That's my advice...shesh! We got our fall book list too! I haven't checked out prices yet but there are at least 15 books on the list.
