They posted my fall book list.

For 2 classes, A&P I and Foundations of Nursing it's $1300 for the semester.

After I passed out [lol] I was thinking...is that average? I have to request more loan money now.

My school said to expect $800 for the nursing courses. How in the world did the previous poster have to spend over $1000 on A&P I?? Is that in US$? ;) That's ridiculous!! There are plenty of other texts/workbooks/lab manuals well under that cost.

My school also said to expect to pay $800 for books for the program (nursing classes only). When I took A&P I paid around $150 for my text and lab book, and we used them for 1 & 2! I don't understand how AP books could total $1000, seems unreal.

I paid $225 for the A&P text and lab book (used for both A&P I & II).

I paid $240 last week for the Microbiology package (Tortora text, lab manual and photographic atlas).

I got the booklist for the Fall and Spring sessions for nursing classes only and the 12 books total $600.00 new on Amazon ($400 for Fall, $200 for Spring).

I am going to investigate the other book sites some of you provided. Thanks.

I just went to Barnes & Nobel and ordered my books. I have 2 sisters that work for the local school system and get an educator's discount (20%) when their card is shown. This works out to be better than B&N membership prices.

Wow!! My college says that books for the entire first year will only run you $600... Our uniforms are $300 (two) and then the last year the books are about $450... My A&P Book I bought at amazon for about $75 and used it for both 1 and 2... The only other thing I needed was a software program called Adam interactive that a friend copied for me (it was a DL class)

But I agree with everyone else! Buy online! I was able to my first semester but all of my pre-req's since then have been online and my college 'packages' everything you need together for a class so it's difficult to find everything you need for the course.. Also, any books you do not use sell on Amazon.. or Ebay!

Ok i bought the davis drug guide off of skyscape for my PDA, now i know im probably going to need it for Nursing 1 in the fall, DO you think what i have for my PDA will be the same as the book??? Or am i going to have to buy the book as well?

It is the same or more current and you can access it faster. You do not need the book. You get regular updates for a year and I got the whole new guide because the new edition came out 6 months after I bought it. Not too shabby!

nope, don't waste your money on the book. the PDA software is just as good. my university actually insists that students purchase the PDA software version of several books.

I got my list yesterday - yikes! I can't seem to find any deals on any of them because they are all so new ('05-'06 editions).

I did a lot of research online and found the best deal for *new* books on buy.com and overstock.com. I searched by the ISBN # to ensure it was the right edition. Some of my books are cheaper on Buy.com, some are cheaper on overstock. Oh and shipping, orders over $25 on buy are shipped free and shipping on overstock is really cheap, like $1.40 for one book, $2.40 for 2, and $2.95 for 3 or more.

I will not be buying any of these books new if I can help it. If you search for your books on eBay, be sure that you search by ISBN # and you check the "Search title and descriptions" box. WATCH OUT for ridiculous shipping charges, they like to prey on newcomers by having a low price but high shipping and required insurance. Shipping insurance should be optional and cheap, not $6 or $7.

Oh, and I have found great lapel watches on eBay. Some have glowing faces and pulse meters. I just won an auction this morning, I'll let you know about it when I get it. :balloons:
