The other night working on a patients, I was absorbed doing what I was supposed to be doing. When a coworker saw a pts family member pick my wallet right out of my pocket.
I had that family member removed from the ER. And for her not to be let back in. even though the pt and other family members asked that she should be allowed in. Not one of them apologized for that persons behaviour. Then they said they were going to complain that I kept that person out.
My sentiment was, too Bad.

Wow, that was just so mean of you not to not allow the thief to return to the ER.
Some people have no sense of shame.

I might have kicked it up a notch and called the cops, sent the jerk to jail for a few hours. Wonder how the fam would have behaved then.

Bottom line - did it improve customer satisfaction to allow the family member to pick your pocket? You probably blew your survey by asking for your wallet back!

Exactly! I'm just waiting for the follow-on post re. your "counseling" session in which management helps you compose an apology letter to the "offended" party.
In nurse world, that aggrieved party somehow would not be Tom!

ROFL!
Seriously though, talk about biting the hand that feeds it. Good for you for standing up to them. Its a shame you didn't file charges though.

Tom, don't you know they have a RIGHT to be there with their family? Their family member is ill and they were upset- financial stressors- what ELSE were they supposed to do?

There is a prolem filing charges, though. the police are very nice to deal with.
However, then come come the lawyers. DA lawyers, defense lawyers. I hate lawyers. None of them are any good. Unless they are_______ . Then comes depositions. Then comes the actually court date. Sometimes 2 or 3 yrs down the road. There you get treated horrible by both sets of lawyers. Been there, done that, been through it. Lawyers are worse than the criminal.
