My trusty thermometer has fizzled out and I need to find a replacement. Unfortunately, the one I use now is a discontinued item, so I have to start fresh. What do you use or what do you wish you had to use?
I swear the vast majority of my students had no idea that you could take a temperature orally. When I first started here I had no idea where anything was kept and could only find oral thermometers. I used them for the first several weeks and every kid gave me a weird look when I told them to put it under their tongues! Seriously, maybe one actually knew how/where to keep it without my explaining.
At home I use the old fashioned shake it down kind.
The mercury thermometer is my favorite! I have one at home too! But it's Celsius so I have to convert
My facilities director confiscated every single one (well maybe almost all of them ), due to risk of mercury hazard. Remember when we were kids we used to chase the mercury around on the floor when it broke?

Thanks for the great memory of my Dad! He had a jar of mercury on his desk and occasionally would let us play with it. Oh, that was fun! I had forgotten about that.

I like not having to waste a probe cover each time a student comes in convinced they are running a fever with their seasonal allergies.
I use a welch allyn thermo scan (tympanic) as a back up. The two usually agree
