There is always one student in every class that has to ask a question every 5 minutes! In one of my hardest classes we got through 3 slides in 3 hours! We can't even cover the material because this one student can't help but share EVERY personal story! I am so worried about our first exam because we haven't really covered much.

Ugggg, there IS always one. And while that person is usually lovely and a great person, I can't help but want to shove my lab coat down their throat to make them shut up so we can move forward!
...Then, taser the disruptive student and quietly drag their twitching body out into the hall. If the professor notices this, they will pretend not to out of gratitude. It works every time!

BWAHHAHAHAHA!
When I was in school, my issue was NOT with people who asked legitimate questions about the presented material.
My issues were with:
--One student who apparently had an extensive medical history and felt the need to share her personal experience with a particular disease with the entire class.
--One student who worked as an LPN now becoming an RN. "Well, at my hospital we always do it like...." Quite annoying when you are trying to learn the NCLEX way.
--Several students who shared stories that involved parents, things their doctor had said to them, what happened to their kids 10 years ago, etc.
While all these things may be important to these individuals, they have no place in the classroom and interfere with the learning of other students.
In the end, it is the responsibility of the instructor to keep on task. Politely tell him that all the interruptions are really taking away from the learning experience for both you and several students.
I can already tell from prereqs who that person is going to be. Actually, we'll have two of them for sure and I pray there isn't more. One does a lot of "Can you repeat that?" or "How does that work?" The other is a life story person and not even just her own...she talks about her friends experiences too.
Thanks for the advice guys! I think I will confront the student in a nice way and if that does not work take the issue up with the professor. It is only the second week so hopefully she will get the ball rolling soon!
Whaaaat? No way would I do that. I'd go to the professor FIRST. It's your professor's job to keep lecture on track, and if he/she is made aware that people find the student disruptive, it's his or her job to handle it. You don't run the classroom.
I can't stand slow moving lectures, be they from non-stop personal sharing or someone that asks a million questions. I understand that people learn in different ways, but this is a group effort. I shouldn't have to learn practically nothing in class and end up teaching myself at home (I'm the auditory type - reading the book at home isn't great for me) because one person needs what should be done in a one on one session.
I'm not against questions...we all have them. But I think people need to censor themselves and remember there are other people in the room who have needs as well.
I cannot STAND students like this. My number one academic pet peeve. It's so rude and obnoxious, and a classic case of extroverts not knowing when to shut the hell up and spare the rest of us. If I wouldn't risk getting kicked out of the class I'd duck tape their mouths closed myself. If you have extra questions and/or stories, take it up with the instructor AFTER class. No one is paying to hear you flap your jaws. Then there are the ones who act like they know more than the instructors (usually a guy).
I wish it was just one, I think it's more like 10. In two, two hour lectures we have only covered the material for the first lecture. So we are 50% behind in the first week. Ugggh. Our fist skills lab was sabotaged in much the same way with an hour of fairly ridiculous questions mostly about the syllabus. If people would only take a little more personal responsibility we would be much better off. I'm hoping once we get past the first week nerves things will get better. If not I think I will speak to some of the instructors.
There is a woman in my class who has a long personal story that relates to everything!!!!! E all pay for these classes and worked our butts off to get here. I did not pay to listen to someone waste valuable learning time from lecture or lab. If you have a specific learning style then it is your responsibility to figure out how to use jt without jeopardizing everyone else's education. That's just extremely selfish and rude

That sounds like me except for the part where she shares them. I just have the little light bulb in my head go off constantly and I think, "oh wow so that's why that happened." Every once in awhile I'll ask them to clarify something in relation to that or in general, but if it is not relevant for what we're learning or is something that I'm just curious about I generally wait until after class to ask unless I think my question is critical to the next 20 slides etc or would benefit the whole class.

Sounds like we are in the same class. There is this one girl who ask like fifty questions every class. There's also this one guy he ask about twenty questions. It seems like the whole entire class time is taken up by those two asking questions. The teacher even said keep all comments to two per person. You think they listened, NO. I get so annoyed I am thinking of talking to the professor about those two. And what really ****** me off like the other day we went over math, they asked questions on every problem. If they would study, practice questions, and read they wouldn't have to ask the teacher. I was almost at breaking point Wednesday. One more vent......There's some who think they are smarter than the rest of us and the teacher, I am like get over yourself, and shut up.
