Hey all,
I'm taking the Nclex tomorrow, and studying/reviewing last minute things. I jumped on allnurses for a bit of a break.
So here's my question.. What is the theme song to your nursing career?
Take away the sensation inside
Bitter sweet migraine in my head
Its like a throbbing toothache of the mind
I can't take this feeling anymore
Drain the pressure from the swelling,
This sensation's overwhelming,
Give me a long kiss goodnight
and everything will be alright
Tell me that I won't feel a thing
So give me Novacaine
Out of body and out of mind
Kiss the demons out of my dreams
I get the funny feeling, that's alright
Jimmy says its better than air,
I'll tell you what
Drain the pressure from the swelling,
This sensation's overwhelming,
Give me a long kiss goodnight
and everything will be alright
Tell me that I won't feel a thing,
So give me Novacaine
ho novacaine
Drain the pressure from the swelling,
This sensation's overwhelming
Give me a long kiss goodnight
and everything will be alright
Tell me Jimmy I won't feel a thing,
So give me Novacaine
Brick House by the Commadores-This song automatically clicks on inside my head when dealing with docs or co-workers trying to give me attitude and helps remind me to stand my ground.
Groove Is In The Heart by Deee-Lite-My go to song if I am feeling overwhelmed or stressed, just thinking about it makes me smile and relax. Kooks and Fill your Heart by David Bowie are also great for helping me smile when I'm stressed.
This is an oldie, but so am I:
I'm Willin' by Seatrain
I've been whipped by the wind,
Driven by the sea,
Had my head stove-in,
But I'm still on my feet,
and I'm still......willin'
( this song has a lot of drug references that don't apply to me, but I like the essence of the song, and the music has a catchy lilt and attitude.)
One very good song and perfect for nursing!Actually written by Lloyd George of Little Feet and covered by many. Lloyd was working for Frank Zappa at the time who declined to record it because of the drug references.
Zappa turned it down? Well, I couldn't imagine it as a M-o-I song anyway.
I saw Zappa in concert in Boston in the ? mid-70's and it was kind of disappointing. He refused to do any of his old material; He had some kind of German operatic piece, the only thing about which I actually remember was "Don't Get Chizz On My New Green Sofa". He was mad about the audiences response and walked off stage. So, thinking, oh well, he must have been having a bad night, we left. We assumed the show was over. Then I heard that about 20 minutes after we left he did come back on stage and did some of his more familiar stuff and it was a pretty good show after that.

When I was in nursing school, it was "Climb Every Mountain," from The Sound of Music, but instead of the "'til you find your dream" line, we'd sing "'til you get your degree."
