The Trump Thread

Published

I confess to back pedaling into Trump territory when I wanted to leave discussions about him in the garbage can.  My thread on the read-only break room site has 9,600 replies so I thought I'd bring up a new one.

He's not going away.

Haberman's book is out based on interviews.  I won't read it, but the excerpts are interesting.  Especially what he says about McConnell, a description that's against the Terms of Service here, but I actually don't disagree with.  LOL

Quote

“At one point, Trump made a candid admission that was as jarring as it was ultimately unsurprising. ‘The question I get asked more than any other question: “If you had it to do again, would you have done it?”’Trump said of running for president. ‘The answer is, yeah, I think so. Because here’s the way I look at it. I have so many rich friends and nobody knows who they are.’ … Reflecting on the meaning of having been president of the United States, his first impulse was not to mention public service, or what he felt he’d accomplished, only that it appeared to be a vehicle for fame, and that many experiences were only worth having if someone else envied them.”

As I said in 2021, Trump tried to prevent Philadelphia + PA citizens votes from being counted in 2020.  Reading the Special counsel report _ reported in Philadelphia Inquirer today

Special Counsel Jack Smith says Donald Trump's team discussed throwing out 300,000 Philly votes in 2020

...And although the scheme never came to fruition, it nonetheless was discussed by some of the highest-ranking officials in his orbit, according to the report, which quotes Rudy Giuliani — then Trump's personal lawyer — as saying the idea was to "just flat out change the vote, deduct that number of votes from the — declare those votes, 300,000 votes in Philadelphia, illegal, unlawful. Reduce the number by 300,000....

I do not understand this post. Can you clarify what does "Tell my why you

Take the win" mean?

I would be fine if Trump didn't do much of anything during his second term. He should leave the same cabinets heads in place, allow Congress to pass a budget, as the Constitution dictates, and show up for the occasional state funeral.

We are better off if he just shuts up and stops trying to bully allies and stops sucking up to dictators and autocrats. And he needs to kick the tech bros to the curb.

You most likely didn't want a border wall, want to keep Obamacare......

He didn't get the border wall finished and didn't end Obamacare.  These are wins for you. And a go to "gotcha " moment.

Should he be uncivil to dictator and autocrats?  You think that's a good idea?

Shoot...paywall.  Unfortunately I can't read how the Philly Inquirer wants to interpret Jack Smith's report.  What a shame.

What is your opinion of PA courts taking on what was the legislature's job and changing election law for the 2020 election?

As set forth in my Report, after conducting thorough
investigations, I found that, with respect to both Mr. Trump's unprecedented efforts to unlawfully
retain power after losing the 2020 election and his unlawful retention of classified documents after
leaving office, the Principles compelled prosecution. Indeed, Mr. Trump's cases represented ones
"in which the offense [was] the most flagrant, the public haim the greatest, and the proof the most
certain." Jackson, "The Federal Prosecutor."

Quote

A significant challenge that the Office faced after Mr. Trump's indictment was his ability
and willingness to use his influence and following on social media to target witnesses, courts,
and Department employees, which required the Office to engage in time-consuming litigation to
protect witnesses from threats and harassment.
Mr. Trump's resort to intimidation and harassment during the investigation was not new,
as demonstrated by his actions during the charged conspiracies. A fundamental component of
Mr. Trump's conduct underlying the charges in the Election Case was his pattern of using social
media-at the time, Twitter-to publicly attack and seek to influence state and federal officials,
judges, and election workers who refused to support false claims that the election had been stolen
or who otherwise resisted complicity in Mr. Trump's scheme. After Mr. Trump publicly assailed
these individuals, threats and harassment from his followers inevitably followed.

The report is interesting but we all knew this stuff already.

Thank you for your clarification.

I do not think he should declare dictators and autocrats are friends.  That is different from being uncivil.

I did notice.

Sorry, but if one boasts about how well the election is going for their candidate (as I did), even posting early results from their state that favored their candidate (the last post made before the "sabattatical") they should be grown up enough to stick around and talk about it when they lose.

I did in 2020, and was prepared to again.

So, a little mild ribbing isn't out of line.  And that'll be it.

I'll give her credit though.  At least she did come back.  Welcome back @NRSKarenRN.

A few others completely disappeared and are still in hiding, and at this point really can't reappear with any shred of credibility.

I've moved on from the immediate aftermath of the Harris defeat.  By saying "toxic" I wasn't talking about immediately after the election.  I'm talking about the last couple of months where I felt it necessary to put two posters on ignore.

I can't speak for Karen, but to me Karen was back all along, maybe not immediately and certainly not as prolific with news stories as in the past, but no need to welcome her back as she never went away, unless you mean welcome back from January 3 (11 days ago).

I think I was the only one that was here from the day just prior and offered congratulations afterwards,  As I said a few others just needed time to regroup.  The one glaring person missing, I'll just allow you to criticize and think what you want.

I was mature enough to handle a little bit of "mild ribbing", although in my shock and disappointment it was difficult.  I can't lie about that.

I certainly didn't understand the fun Crusades was having at pointing out the hypocrisy of the Democrats.  I also tired of "he won the election and the popular vote", and the repeating of the many posts of anger at the Democrats and their references to "the name that can't be said" but I can't tell someone how to post.

Again, I moved on from those days.

So the issue is you do not like the word he used?

How should he refer to them? As enemies? Then expect them to negotiate with him? When a few have nuclear weapons in their pocket?

He referred to North Korea's leaders as "“little rocket man", and bragged his nuclear button was bigger.  But later seemed to have a bromance going on.

Oh and he managed to get "rocket man" to stop playing with his nukes. And a peace deal in the middle east.

Perhaps rocket man and Trump have not come to terms with their less than 100% heterosexuality. So what?

Would Trump and rocket man not be allowed in the LGBTQ community?

Now, at a caucus retreat on January 4th, House Republicans actively discussed policy options to cut federal Medicaid spending — including converting Medicaid to a per capita cap — for inclusion in budget reconciliation legislation this year, according to both Politico and Axios.

Quote

Representative Brett Guthrie (R-KY), the new chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which has jurisdiction over Medicaid, told Politico that he had presented a per capita cap proposal to the House Republican caucus.  Under the current federal-state financial partnership, the federal government pays a fixed percentage of states' Medicaid costs, whatever those costs are.  A per capita cap would radically restructure Medicaid financing: states would receive only a fixed amount of federal Medicaid funding on a per-beneficiary basis, irrespective of states' actual costs.  These funding caps are typically designed to fail to keep pace with expected growth in health care costs in order to severely cut federal Medicaid spending, with those cuts growing larger and larger over time.  Moreover, the caps would also fail to account for any unexpected cost growth such as from another public health emergency or a new, costly drug therapy, which would make the federal funding cuts even larger than originally anticipated.

Bold mine. They design it to fail.  Trump Republicans seem to have a real desire to hurt poor people when they need healthcare. Why is that?  Is cruel disregard a feature of American conservatism?

What kind of question is this?  The gay community isn't something that you apply to join.  You either self-identify as LGBTQ or not.

Bromance, meaning "a close but nonsexual relationship between two men", has nothing to do with the LGBTQ community.   I wasn't questioning or insinuating their "less than 100% heterosexuality" when I used the term.

Ignore.

It looks like Trump won't be having an outdoor inauguration.  The Capitol Rotunda will be an easier space to fill with spectators and the cold wind won't mess up his hair.
