The "I hate math" club

Published

I am starting my stats class on the 29 my very last math course I will ever have to take!

Math is my worst subject. I can never get anything over a 'B'. I was thinking that if there was any others in here taking stats and dreading it we could help eachother out when we get stuck or just have some one to gripe to! :roll

Hey..I'm here to help you guys too. I've had the same two lab partners through most of these classes. I'm about to help one of them through algebra and the other through stats.

Don't hesitate to ask.

Mike

Thanks Mike! :) It must be nice to have a good, long term, study buddy. I hope that it works out that way for me throughout the nursing program.

I HATE math!!! I have taken calc and stats for my Marketing degree and I just hope that they'll take those as transfers and I won't have to take anymore math!! We'll see though. I'm just horrible at it! :rotfl:

If it helps...

I grew up a math idiot - always had to take math for dummys all the way through high schoo, never made it through a college algebra course (4 attempts) and was dreading chem and math 15 years ago...

I made a B in chem and A in stats!

Stats rocked my world!

P.S Hi Mikey! Have you told em what your score on the NET you took today was???? (I'm sorta proud of my big brother!)

Ok, yesterday was my first stats class and I am shaking in my boots!!! My teacher told us (and repeated about five times) "This class is very demanding! Take your book with you and look at in, it is easy to forget some of the stuff as we go on. If you are playing pool on a friday night, bring your book with you and look at it from time to time. Chapters 1-5 are hard, and then the ones after that are harder and then it gets even harder. Some of my students that have taken calc have said that this class is harder..."

Do you think he is trying to scare us? :crying2: I heard once that people that hate math like algebra and like english usually like stats but people that are more "mathy" hate stats the most. Have you hear this? :imbar

Hey everyone!

I know exactly how you all feel and I can tell you from experience, my A in stats was the hardest A I've ever worked for in my life!!! Fortunately, I had an amazing professor, with a PhD in epidemiology! What helped me most was my study group. We would get together a couple days before a test and bring review questions that we were having trouble with. With 5 people in our group, one of us was bound to understand the hard ones. Anyway, DONT TAKE YOUR MATH COURSES LIGHTLY!!! I just started nursing school and was surprised at all of the basic math on the NET test. After taking stats and chemistry, I thought it would be much more difficult than it was. It had been a while since I had had fractions, decimals, percentages, and long division (by hand, no calculator!!!) Go buy a drug calculations (Brown and Mulholland)workbook and do the General Math chapter as review! You'll do great.

One more thing, I'll be taking the dosage and solutions test, mentioned earlier, next semester and have to make 100% on it!!! No pressure, right?! If we can't make a perfect score by the third try, we can't administer medication and, therefore, can't attend clinicals, therefore, FAIL the course!!! As you can see, math stinks, but we all have to know it and will probably be using it for the rest of our careers! By the way, I'm not too shabby at math so if you have any questions, I'll do my best to help you figure it out! Good luck to all of you and keep your spirits up! Your most treasured possession in school will become your sense of humor!

Blessings,

Hi Sis....no I didn't tell them what I made on the NET yet, I just got home from chemistry. Since I pretty much remember the break down of the questions...how many of each of the different types... and the print out says what I made on each section. I got in a hurry and missed one. That just pisses me off. 97% on the math

I was disappointed with my reading score. I got an 85% on that.

The percentile works out pretty will, NET Composite score of 91% and 99 percentile.

I love the social interaction/stress level stuff at the end....they seem to think I'm aggressive for some reason...can't quite figure that one out.

I started the test at 12:21:33 and finished it at 13:50:03.

I took my print out in to the ADN office across the hall from the El Centro testing center to confirm what I was supposed to do with the print out in my admissions package.

The girl asked if she could look at my score....her eyes got really big and she said: "You did REALLY good on the math!!"

I sorta grinned...

I hate math too along with Chemistry :p

I highly suggest a good math tutor if you ever need help. I am sure there are lots of math whizzes here too that can help. Good luck. :)

I started stats this week. What else can I say but... :uhoh3: Ok, maybe I can't get another 4.0 this semester, but please God let me atleast pass with a C!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :crying2:

I have to retake my assessment test so I can take chemistry and stats in the winter.

I took my first stats quiz last night and drew blanks. It was like I could not get my brain to work. :crying2: It probably did not help that I did not get to study much because I was sick over the weekend. Plus, our teacher has a no make up no matter what policy so I forced myself to class even though I felt horrible. When I got home I had a temp of 100.8, maybe thats why I could not think straight!

Any one else taking stats having troubles? :uhoh3:

So what blanks did you draw? What was on the quiz? Mean, median, mode, midrange, variance and standard deviation? Is your instructor giving you the formulae or are you supposed to pull them from the deep, dark recesses of what used to be your brain?

Talk to me...tell me what's going on and maybe I can help.
