Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I am starting my stats class on the 29 my very last math course I will ever have to take!

Math is my worst subject. I can never get anything over a 'B'. I was thinking that if there was any others in here taking stats and dreading it we could help eachother out when we get stuck or just have some one to gripe to! :roll

It was on statistical sifnificance, error types, significant levels, p-value, direction of extreme ect. I did fine on the homework problems, but when I took the quiz I felt like I was not given enough information to solve the problems. Also, in all of the homework we were working with graphs, but not in the quiz. Maybe I just freaked out or somthing. If you pray, keep me in your prayers! LOL

I just ordered "The Compete Idoit's Guide to Statistics" I'll try anything!! :uhoh3:

One suggestion I have that has worked for other people w/math "issues" is this:

Copy the 1st example given in the chapter. Then find the exercise problems that match that example. W/the one you copied in front of you, solve the problem, following every step in the example. Then copy the 2nd example, and so forth. By getting each one down on paper, then doing the exercise problems one section @ a time, it might be easier than looking at several examples and then trying to solve a bunch of similar problems.

A lot of times, the instructor will give homework problems #1-10. Do more! Repetition does help. If you get frustrated, leave it for a little while (~an hour), get a snack, water, then go back, copy the example again, etc. Maybe after the break, your brain will absorb it. If you get really stuck, try working it w/another student, one of your "board buddies", or even the instructor. Don't be afraid to tell hem/her this is difficult for you, you won't be the 1st!

Hang in there! When you get that test back, try the problems again to see if you can solve them now. You'll probably see that type of problem again on the final.

I need to vent about something... In my math class this semester (college Algebra) we can't use any calculators! I think that's ridiculous! Even when solving problems with pi we have to just use 3.14 and get the answer with that. Am I totally crazy for thinking that's kind of not fair? Also, it makes me mad because my professor says all this should be "easy" and will skip over explaining some things...for me nothing in math comes easy.

Raise your hand, and repeat what you just said! What's the worst that will happen?

I also suggest looking into a tutor or math lab if they have one. Not sure, but I think most schools do. Also, look @ other texts to see if another one explains it better. You might be able to borrow it from the library if you can't find it CHEEAAAP! Use the websites for more help.

If you have a specific ???, post it.

Same story here....made a B in college algebra 10 years ago. Chose an English major (ironically English is my second language and I A'ced those classes) I had to take every developmental class on the face of this earth to get that B in collelge algebra. Laid math on ice for many years just to discover there is no escape from it when I decided to get into nursing last year. Got only a B in Chem also because if the stupid conversions and mole formulas etc.

Husband makes A's in Calculus1 and Calculus2?!?!?! How that? I am the smarter one of the two of us, what gives? :D I have a whole lot more sense than he ;) (he's gonna kill me if he reads this cause he tutored me in math and chem) ehemmmmm Luv Ya, Honey :kiss

This math stuff will do me in eventually! I just don't have the brain for it! I know we need more of it in nursing school and on every darn test. I still have to take statistics, NOT looking forward to it!:bluecry1:

Congrats! :Melody:

I have to prepare for a dosage calculations test (I am terrified).....must pass it with an 85 percent or risk getting the boot :sniff:
