The nightmare returns---Hunter Group is coming!!!

Published

I have heard by the grapevine that the Hunter Group will be coming to the hospital at which I'm currently working. :angryfire :stone :(

Having been thru this once already, I can hardly wait. :uhoh21:

I'd like to keep working for 6-8 more years; this hospital is so convenient--~10mi from home, no commute traffic, lass intense level II nursery--just perfect. I hope they don't mess up my plans, but guess I should figure out a "plan B".

I'm just disgusted. You'd think after this long, the jig would be up with those folks, and hospitals wouldn't hire them any more.

By the way, they changed their name--they are now part of "Navigent".

I have never encountered this group - thank God! I do remember being a Nursing Student in my 'transition' period just before graduating. We were working nights - 2 student Nurses, 1 LPN and 1 Charge RN. We had a group like that watching us. We were told to "work slowly" - don't miss one single step - so the times on the sheet were always high. Pretty amazing really since the other student Nurse and I each had 34 patients (general surgery and palliative care) with the LPN running around like crazy trying to help us and the Charge RN doing all the orders ect. ect. What did those idiots think they could do - use 1 student RN for 68 patients?????

My son worked for this type of company for 3 weeks and then quit because he didn't want to be involved with any company who destroyed peoples lives the way these groups do. I'm proud of him!

I remember as a supervisor going to administrative meetings when Hunter Group was involved. We were given 'hit lists' of staff members to watch and write up based on their recommendations on who to eliminate/pressure to quit. I remember thinking at that time "Deb, you don't have it in you to be part of this." And I was right.

Sadly I now have similar feelings about my involvement in facility healthcare nursing in general. :stone

Unbelieveable that tactics like this are legal.

But........

Have pity on my poor soul....the Navigent/Hunter group has rode into my town and into my hospital. I fear the worst.

I've never had the pleasure of running into these people and after reading these posts I hope I never do. My condolences are with you. Good luck.

My sincere condolences, Wolfie. :o It might be a good idea to formulate an alternative employment plan NOW in case things become unbearable and professionally unsafe at your hospital. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Is your a unionized hospital?? IF so, they hopefully are part of one of the bigger nationwide unions and things like this can be publicized almost immediately through their connections

Sounds like a good time to update your resume, Thunderwolf. Hope they don't have you in their sights.

wolfy, you hang in there..do not resign even if they say that it wil look better on you records, esp if they try and give you that stupid argument

if they zero in on you make them put everything down in writing and witness. if they call you in and you are alone with two or more of them there, request a recording be made of the procedure, they will back each other up and you will be left out to dry

they use to have energy efficient experts back in the 60s, they could come out with some really stupid ideas...and the problem is they think they are so smart..

never trust anyone on a power trip...they are first cousins to the great white shark..but the shark has more class

You have my deepest sympathies, Wolfie...........once those efficiency 'experts' start tinkering around with a hospital, things start going down the toilet really fast.

We had Cardinal come in 2 years ago. They're another group that's famous---or should I say notorious?---for helping hospitals to slash costs by recommending the elimination of 'extra' staffing (like PRN/admit nurses and adequate numbers of CNAs) and encouraging administrators to 'ease out' the nurses who are older and/or have been there longer. Looking back now, I think that was the beginning of the end for me........even though I was on the committee dedicated to testing the recommendations and providing input on how they worked. I'd planned on working at that hospital until I was ready to retire or semi-retire, but the changes implemented made it impossible for me (and indeed many of us) to keep up. Sure, the hospital is operating in the black now........but at what cost in quality of care and the health of remaining staff?

When I went back to visit yesterday, I realized just how haggard everybody looks, and how unhappy they all seem to be. Most of my former co-workers used to be cheerful, upbeat people who loved their work, even if it did get really crazy at times; when I left there, it was crazy ALL the time, and had been for over a year, and now even my former manager has lost her spark. Nobody smiles anymore; nobody even looks particularly healthy---their faces are a sickly sallow color, several of them have gained large amounts of weight, and others who were thin to start with look almost cachectic. And all I heard was, "You're lucky you left when you did---it's even worse now".:o

While I'm glad I escaped total ruination, I feel bad for the staff, the overwhelming majority of whom are good people and damned fine nurses. But these 'efficiency' companies couldn't care less about them........Cardinal made over $1 million 'working' with the hospitals in our system, and now the system is literally hemorrhaging nurses, yet there is a hiring freeze on. Go figure.:angryfire

Are any of you that have experience with these groups (Hunter) part of a union? I am just curious. And Press Ganey. I remember working for a hospital who got a near perfect score on theirs....(a union hospital) I dont remember if they recommend lay offs or money saving tacticts, I just remember them being a patient satisfaction monitoring type of organization? Am I remembering wrong?

I have never met Hunter nor do I want to but..It sounds like a good ole union organizing time to me (just for the scare if it passes or not) I have never seen management soo willing to communicate as when union organizers are knocking on the door.
