I have heard by the grapevine that the Hunter Group will be coming to the hospital at which I'm currently working. :angryfire :stone
Having been thru this once already, I can hardly wait. :uhoh21:
I'd like to keep working for 6-8 more years; this hospital is so convenient--~10mi from home, no commute traffic, lass intense level II nursery--just perfect. I hope they don't mess up my plans, but guess I should figure out a "plan B".
I'm just disgusted. You'd think after this long, the jig would be up with those folks, and hospitals wouldn't hire them any more.
By the way, they changed their name--they are now part of "Navigent".
ANGIE...that is not how it works..if there were a publicity about it then the answer would be something like...WE ARE DOING THIS 'SURVEY' TO SEE HOW WE CAN BETTER SERVE THE PUBLIC...OUR ULTIMATE GOAL IS TO REDUCE THE HEALTH COSTS OF THE PEOPLE WE SERVE...read this to mean a big pile of BS..the money saved goes into bonus money for the people at the top for thinking of such a wonderful money saving approach...people we serve iis a catch word for we are going to get as much out of them as we possibly can and only do for them what the federal guidelines say we must or we will join martha stewart in the pokey...it is all in how you phrase it...they are not going to get on tv and say we are a bunch of lying cheating Bs

Wow!!! I the average bedside nurse must be a heck of a lot smarter than the admin. types. They are totally out in left field. We are not a hospitality industry where people come to stay in the hospital in search of gourmet food served by people in starched white shirts and black aprons and lay on bed w/ pretty floral sheets and silky comforters. We are not a factory where people are supposed to produce productX in X number of minutes per hour which is identical to the last hundred produced in the last hour. We are supposed to be treating individual patients as the individual people they are using our very best skills and judgement. I think our treck out into these other fields away from our true purpose to provide care to those w/ healthcare needs has cost us dearly in terms of patient safety. Our hospitals shouldn't be spending millions on lavish lobbies, picturesque landscaping, gourmet food, and hospitals rooms that look like suites at Buckingham Palce. They ought to be hiring and retaining qualified staff to ensure patient safety. A beautiful hospital lobby or pretty wallpaper won't make or break you. The number of patients your nurse is taking care of might. We see it time and again how patients were neglected and injured because their nurse had too many others to care for or she/he was inexperienced and had no one w/ more expertise to turn to. As far as I am concerned they can take the Hunter Group and Press-Gainey and shove them and the like where the sun don't shine. We should stand up for ourselves and our patients and refuse to co-operate when ridiculous groups come in to observe our work habits. We also need to educate the public about what is most important in healthcare. Hospitals need to face the music when it comes to the latest stats from the national groups studying patient safety. If your nurse has more than 4 patients you face a 7% increase risk of death while in her/his care for every person more than 4 she/he cares for. People come to the hospital for nursing care and medical treatment. When they are well enough to care for themselves, then they can go stay in a nice hotel in a nice vacation spot. That's not our purpose! Take that one and survey it!!!:angryfire

Ewwwwwwww...
It was about one year ago that my previious hostpital brought in the Hunter Group. Over the next few months which followed, the best descriptor would be chaos. All but one educator was canned, floor nurses were terminated, the nurse recruiter was released, a few CNAs--bye bye; everyone took hits, including admin. I remember that we all would joke about this group, saying "give me the $2 million, I can tell you to cut staff to save money for short term". That's bad enough that we knew cuts were coming, but problem was that it occurred in phases over a few months, and many didn't know until they came to tell you. Talk about a low morale. I ended up going into travel nursing before all of the cuts had been made and because I decided to leave I spared one of my nighttime coworkers. Unfortunately we did suffer 1 casualty.
From what I've experienced first hand and what everyone else has shared with you, it's evident nothing good comes from the Hunter group, but I do wish you and a a few of your favorite coworkers well .
[the co. has the nerve to claim it cares about the pts wellbeing, Yeah right and I'm blue w/ pink spots too]
Hey can you send a picture of yourself? I have never seen a blue person with pink spots, and I have been a nurse for 20 years!
I am lucky that this is what happened the summer I graduated from nursing school. I applied for about a dozen jobs and was hopeful that I would be able to choose the one I wanted to take from the job offers. Well... silly me. Back in the mid-80's is when the "time management/cost-effective" people came thru and audited and then bought out 3 of the hosptials and walk-in care centers in our area- along with several nursing homes and clinics. Their biggest "cost-saving" move was to get rid of all the LPN's since we are apparently not really nurses. They gave the bulk of the LPN duties to CNA's and PCT's ( a new position they created from cna's with a crash course in nursing practice without the theory). Needless to say within 5 years 1 hopsital had closed it's doors, another had been taken over by a large Medical University and taken under it's wing and rebuilt. The others have since been bought yet a gain by a company with the same cut-costs policies.
I was lucky to have not gotten a job and then fired. I had to work as a medical office receptionist as their weekend and evening nurse when the regular one needed time off. I had to work doing insurance claims and billing and even the collections for the office just to keep a foot in the door in case a nursing job came up. BUt I learned alot and have been able to use that experience to help me with all of the jobs I have held since then.
Try to look at the positive, and deal with the negative when you have to. It may be a good thing in disguise!
Are they anything like the Studer Group? That is our hospital's big thing right now, that and Press Ganey :angryfirePam
Our hospital has Press Ganey also. We have to wear these stupid "Strive For Five" attachments on our I.D. badges. And it's really a load of laughs trying to explain that to some of the patients :angryfire
prmenrs--I hope your organization survives the Hunter Group. My former place of employment did not and is one of those mentioned in the article you cited.
Like many others on this board, I have seen these groups come and go--West Hudson, Hunter and a few others--and when they leave, it's like the path of destruction and ruin in their wake. I hope never to have to run into another of these groups again in my career!
Good luck--I hope your job is still intact when they get done with your place!

i have seen this too...didn't know what it was callled...tried to get rid of cnas some who had been at same hosp for 20-30 years and had worked up to the top of thier pay scale...about what they could hire a new grad for....they really put the pressure on these people....one woman when she reached 62 was called into the head nurse's office and they outlined the benefits she could reap by retiring...she smiled and said that she would certainly give it some thought but that she had every intention of working until she hit 70 they then tried to get the floor nurses to give a poor evaluation because she was starting to 'slow down' nobody would sign these evals...she worked until she was ready to retire....head nurse was transferred to another floor as a floor nurse [no connection she was just a poor leader]
