I have heard by the grapevine that the Hunter Group will be coming to the hospital at which I'm currently working. :angryfire :stone
Having been thru this once already, I can hardly wait. :uhoh21:
I'd like to keep working for 6-8 more years; this hospital is so convenient--~10mi from home, no commute traffic, lass intense level II nursery--just perfect. I hope they don't mess up my plans, but guess I should figure out a "plan B".
I'm just disgusted. You'd think after this long, the jig would be up with those folks, and hospitals wouldn't hire them any more.
By the way, they changed their name--they are now part of "Navigent".
Nurses had to chart their every step from beginning of shift to end of shift. They even had people on the night shift watching activities. The hospital was told that they could save a great deal of money by moving longer termed employees into retirement and hiring new people for less wages. Of course, the hospital followed their recommendations. The results were short of disasterous .....
Same exact thing happened in my area. We all had to write timelines of what we did minute by minute. (who has time to do that??) Our high paid people were pressured to quit, older employees bullied to retire early, and the hospital ended up going under in a year anyway despite these people.
My heart really goes out to you if you have one of these groups come in. I worked at a hospital where one of these groups came to town "to advise". Essentially the plan was to harrass any long term staff on board to quit (cheaper than retirement). In meetings with the staff, a common phrase used by this team to the nurses was "you know where the door is". It was sad. Many nurses did leave, which was this group's goal any way. The hospital really took a hit afterward when this group left. Floors were left extremely short of staff. Some floors closed because of the lack of staff. For the staff who survived this escapade, the floors were litigiously dangerous. Staff were overworked on a consistant basis. The staff throughout the house, to add more injure to insult, were forced to reapply for their jobs via interview as another means of intimidation. The hospital was forced to bring in a drove of agency nurses to help bring in additional help. The hospital, learning some from its error, attempted to outreach and rehire its nurses back. Many of them did not return due to the disloyalty and mistreatment they received from this employer. What this employer failed to realize that it ticked off alot of nurses, who took it back to their communities which supplied this hospital with its patients, "advising" them to go to other area hospitals. The most effective advertising is by word of mouth. Lets say, it took several years for this hospital to recover its reputation and standing, not to mention its revenue. When will management learn?

We are still reeling from it. Our staffing stinks. I work on a busy Med-Surg floor where I typically have 8 patients with a CNA that I share with 2 other nurses. Now I just struggle to prioritize and get done what is most important. So much for quality care. Hope it goes better for you.

Sounds like they must be the ones who came through here a while back before I became a nurse. One of my friends a 25yr+ nurse worked for the hospital then and thats exactly what went on here. Its sad, companies want loyalty from its employees but the first chance they see to save $$ they hurt the nurses.
A couple of yrs back when I worked for the healthcare corporation someone had the brainstorm that doc's could see pt's Q10 min. What a fiasco! Being a family practice most of the pts at the time were geriatric, it took them the 10 min just to get to the scales.Oh and the really wonderful thing .... The healthcare corporation would actually cut the doc's pay if they didn't see enough pts. How greedy can they get? What really irks :angryfire me though is the co. has the nerve to claim it cares about the pts wellbeing, Yeah right and I'm blue w/ pink spots too.
Needless to say I won't be working in the hosp.

Hunter Group=group of good for nothings that Hunt down good employees, get rid of them, or do away with any small perks these employees may have, so the big executives can still maintain their salaries and perks and keep the hospital open!

i have seen this too...didn't know what it was callled...tried to get rid of cnas some who had been at same hosp for 20-30 years and had worked up to the top of thier pay scale...about what they could hire a new grad for....they really put the pressure on these people....one woman when she reached 62 was called into the head nurse's office and they outlined the benefits she could reap by retiring...she smiled and said that she would certainly give it some thought but that she had every intention of working until she hit 70 they then tried to get the floor nurses to give a poor evaluation because she was starting to 'slow down' nobody would sign these evals...she worked until she was ready to retire....head nurse was transferred to another floor as a floor nurse [no connection she was just a poor leader]

Yeah, Navigent bought Hunter two years ago. Unfortunately, the stock is doing well, which is usually a bad sign.
