I kind of got this idea from the OB/GYN site about names. It seems that at the LTC facility where I work we have suddenly gotten more than our share of Dorothy's!! I have 6 on my hall of 42!! Plus there are 4 more in the building. (and 1 staff with that name). About 10 years ago, we had a whole bunch of Edith and Mables!! What are some of the common names you are seeing?
Thought this might be fun!:wink2:
The Diane, Phyllis, Shirley and Dorothy crowd will be followed by a lot of Lindas, Pams, Susans and Sharons when my parents' generation ages. When my turn comes there will be a facility with every other resident named Stacy, Jennifer, Kim, Michelle, Nicole.
You can often tell a woman's age by her name.
My name is often associated with women who are my mom's age (60's).
I went through all of my schooling (kindergarten thru high school and college) never having aanother student with the same name as me. Although at least one or two teachers each year had the same name.
My sisters name is also often associated with women who are my mom's age and my sister also went through her schooling never having another student with the same name, and yes, she too, had at least one or two teachers each year with the same name
My oldest daughter has a very unique Italian name. I have never heard her name before in any generation from my Mom's down to my daughters, BUT while walking in the mall when she was a toddler I said her name and an older (much, much, much older) Italian woman looked at me and said "yes?" It happened to be her name and a very popular one when she was young and in Italy.
My younger daughter has an "older" name but I spell it differently and I didn't use the whole "proper" name. I put the nickname for the name on her birth certificate. Using this as an example (not my daughters name). Named Vickie, not Victoria. So people assume her "real" name is Victoria when she says her name is Vickie. We are forever saying nope not Victoria, Just Vickie. I tease her and tell her I'm going to get her a shirt that says "Just XXXX"
