Just a bit ago the top three threads involved:
1.I have a DWI. Can I be a nurse?
2.I am stupid. Can I be a nurse?
3.If it takes me five times to pass NCLEX, Can I be nurse.
Not much left to add. Says it all.
My turn to vent. My current votes for The Mockery of Nursing:
1. Published studies widely covered by both healthcare industry and mainstream media which presuppose nursing is something females who need paid employment do only when absolutely necessary ... and they enter and exit the workforce according to the financial statuses of their spouses. It's not like it's a career requiring dedicated educational preparation or anything ... it's just day labor.
2. Those out there holding nursing positions, responsible for the lives and well-being of others, who can't seem to navigate the ins and outs of daily adult life. Oooohh ... a fellow hospital employee looked at me in a way that scared me, what should I do? Or, I just encountered a clinical practice situation at work that I don't know how to handle ... so I'm going to go ask for advice on an anonymous internet message board. It never occurred to me to tell someone in a position to help me, like a supervisor, charge nurse, pharmacist or other resource person ... Or, I work nights but I plan to change jobs but, whaddya know ... there are certain things I need to do to secure this job that need to be accomplished in the day time ... I can't cope with this, what should I do? I have to make a choice between Choice A and Choice B ... all you people out there, who have never laid eyes on me or know the details of my life ... what should I do?
3. "Firing the nurse" ... meaning patient got reassigned (re-inflicted?) on another nurse. What a ridiculous phrase. Except in pretty rare private duty situations where a nurse is not represented by an agency ... patients do not employ nurses. Patients do not discipline nurses. You have not been "fired" because Mr./Ms. Unsatisfied has been reassigned to one of your coworkers ... you just owe Coworker an adult beverage of his/her choice.
OK, I'll stop now ... tonight I'll go out and get my fomite on to relieve some pent up stress.
How about the polls? As in "I have to make a critically important decision about something that will affect the rest of my life, so I'm going to put up a poll for everyone on this anonymous, public forum, frequently habituated by ne'er-do-wells and whack-a-doodles, to decide."
Or, "I need help with my homework. The choices are a,b, or c. I'm going to put up this poll."
Or, "I work at such and such facility (insert specific state, city, facility name, and floor worked) and am being investigated for (insert specific horrendous issue) by so and so (insert specific, state, city, organization, individual). What should I do?"
Um. Delete the entire post?
Just saw a post from a person who was wondering if nursing was for them...Because they can't handle constructive critism.Now...How does one try to answer that if they don't handle constructive critism??
You tell them they really are a special snowflake, and every day is butterflies, rainbows and puppies.
Then stand back, because it's going to get messy.

May I add to this? How about the posts wherein the poster thinks s/he made a mistake/med error, so the poster comes here to get opinions on an anonymous MB, where she/he has no idea who s/he's talking to? Did it occur to her/him to talk to a co-worker before potential damage occurs? No. The poster comes here, wanting no negative comments and only wants to hear, "It's OK, Boo Boo, I think your pt. will be OK, even though you ran that bag of insulin in over 1/2 hour."
Hmmm, thoughts, thoughts, EVIL, (sick), thoughts.... wouldn't it be a gas to just make up either: rainbows or skittles responses, or end of your life as you know it, actual responses to some of these ridiculous posts purely dependent on the prevailing mood of any one of us....
New thread: I have 2 DUIs and assault pending against me, will I still get into nursing school? -- because it's all I ever wanted to do, my whole life (at 41 years old). I used to deal, but that was just a side line.
Response posting: Sure OP, nothing to worry about!! Be sure you put that on your application, and bring it all up at your interview. Healthcare just loves nurses who have "real world" experience. Did you make a ****-load of money dealing? If you did, then I'd bring that up too because you want to up-talk your successes. Sounds like you are at the front of the line! Good luck and keep us posted!...and don't forget a goody bag for the nurses on your clinical unit!

Um, the sad thing is, that many of the responders on the Criminal Forum DO answer that way....they don't seem to think that any of that information, especially the 2 or 3 or more DUI's are an issue.....it's the old "anyone can make a mistake".....so, your tongue in cheek answer isn't really that "out there".
If I could figure out how to attach a poll, I'd ask:Who thinks I should start a new line of uniform scrubs, called Fomite Factory?
Well, I've had to work for 2 days, and missed this til now, but hellzz yeah!!! I want me some Fomite Factory Scrubs, can you make them in poo brown/ bile green/blood red camo?

Of course! Fomite fashion does not discriminate. Whether your overweight or underweight, over tall or undertall - we cover it ALL in fomites.
Speaking of which, two patients last night: one with MRSA and one with VRE. I was feeling rather fomitilicious
. Oh, and my friend invited me out for kegs and eggs after the shift but I was a good girl (or bad depending on your POV I suppose) and didn't go.
