Just a bit ago the top three threads involved:
1.I have a DWI. Can I be a nurse?
2.I am stupid. Can I be a nurse?
3.If it takes me five times to pass NCLEX, Can I be nurse.
Not much left to add. Says it all.
Just read this article:
Portland nursing assistant sent to jail after posting dying patient
This is horrible!

She's a nursing assistant. SHE DOESN'T HAVE A FRIGGING NURSING LICENSE TO LOSE!!!
Sheesh. Don't reporters do even a modicum of research? Whatever happened to research?
When I read that she had to write a 1000 word apology/essay, the first thing I thought was "I wonder if she's going to write it in text-speak or locats?"
Unless there's an emergency, or you're sick, you shouldn't be able to cancel a shift with no notice, yet this seems to be the way it works for our casuals. We had one nurse last year who kept canceling her shifts....for a whole month. We were screwed, because then we were expected to work. Very annoying!
Nursing, at least when I was stating out, was a calling. separate then working a drug store. or beauty Shop or anything else. If you were schedule you went in. Mother sick you went in, My father dying I had to go in. When did it become "I don't think that I can give proper care to my patients, I'm calling out. I think the archaic word was dedication. Still feel that way
Charming, truly. May she rot in hell.
On another note, to add to the confusion the general public has about nursing, this was a nurse's aide (excuse me, assistant) that the article goes on to say had her "nursing license" revoked. A certificate cannot be revoked, there is no license for a cna, and this woman wasn't a nurse.
Any wonder why our patients get confused?

I posted before reading yours :)
And I wonder if she has to have that essay graded, will she have to re-write it if she gets less than an "A"?
