Just a bit ago the top three threads involved:
1.I have a DWI. Can I be a nurse?
2.I am stupid. Can I be a nurse?
3.If it takes me five times to pass NCLEX, Can I be nurse.
Not much left to add. Says it all.
Tell us how you really feel.
If I did, I'd get a lifetime ban from the board!
Honest, my area is short of evening and night shift casuals. I've worked 10 nights in the last three weeks because of sick calls, vacation, and casuals who have changed their minds.
I know I didn't have to work those shifts, I chose to help out. I'm tired of seeing RNs pick up the LPN shifts on double time. When I started out as a casual I had to sign an employment contract stating which shifts I would be available for and which weekends I could work. Staffing kept track of how many shifts you turned down. There were months I only had three dayshifts (couldn't do Es or NS) due to family issues, so that's all I made for wages. Turn down too many shifts or not work for more than 90 days and they stopped calling.
Unless there's an emergency, or you're sick, you shouldn't be able to cancel a shift with no notice, yet this seems to be the way it works for our casuals. We had one nurse last year who kept canceling her shifts....for a whole month. We were screwed, because then we were expected to work. Very annoying!
I hate working with women, will this be a problem in Nursing.
I have to work Christmas. Nobody in my family has EVER had to work Christmas!!!!!
I don't like my assignment (said after walking in 20 minutes late, and getting coffee and heating up his/her breakfast in the microwave). You need to change it.
They moved me to the parking garage two buildings over. Now I will never get to work on time. ( like you ever got to work on time before!?!?! You see there is the idea that, ohhhhh .....maybe you need to get up about 10-15 minutes earlier?????)

Just make sure you strap on a Wizzinator before you leave for work, and you should be good to go.
