Just a bit ago the top three threads involved:
1.I have a DWI. Can I be a nurse?
2.I am stupid. Can I be a nurse?
3.If it takes me five times to pass NCLEX, Can I be nurse.
Not much left to add. Says it all.

We use to have standers. Do you remember standards. Now it's I am a convicted ax murderer, can I still find employment in the OR. The one I hate the most is ,"I just pass my NCLEX and now I am a Nurse. I would just once go up side their heads with a small length of 2'by4' and say you are not a nurse your just a kid that vomited up what you learned in nursing school and now you have a license. You are not a nurse until you have cried with a mother that just lost her only child or you have tried to clam a father down after he found out that his beautiful daughter had been rape. Come in to our world. The lousy, stinking, heart wrenching but some times beautiful life we called nursing.
New Grad, less than six months experience (in a doctors office) "Oh, I can work any shift you need!" Gets job as casual nurse.
Second week of orientation, "I won't be able to work August, I have a trip planned, oh, and I'm only available for day shift".
Why won't management terminate these brats, they've clearly lied to get the job.

" Ok, I am new nurse, I don;t hafta clean up poop, the CNA's do that. I am NOW a mighty RN, (BSN, if you please) I KNOW EVERYTHING there is to know!! (I was a CNA when I was 18, then after high school I got my BSN) I excelled in Occupational Health classes and now I know it all. I couldn't believe the Dr in ER got angry when I tried to tell him how to take care of a patient. How dare he??!!"
-real wording from a student in my pn class 30 years ago!!!
