IS the hard truth for most nurses definitely new grads is that poop cleaning and urine collection RN jobs are all that is open?
Pretty much bedside care, running around like a chicken with your head cutoff.
I don't think ICU solves the issue either.
Definitely thinking about different degree, since experience is the only way to open up other nursing positions, but I am not about to work bedside for 10 years. I would rather go back to school.
I have a couple of months of bedside experience so is there anything else I can do besides bedside care? If not I have no choice to move on.
There is no way I can pursue marriage a family by bringing home income this way. Just not going to happen.
I have a idea for you. Hold on to your hat, here it comes ... QUIT.
Yep. That's right. Quit.
Holy Mother of Dog. Poop, pee, can't get married. OMG. The horror of earning money in such a way as NURSING! Stop.
This is America. Land of the free, home of the brave. Be brave. At least get off the fence.
Go to work in retail, insurance, banking, teaching, sell real estate or learn to drive a big rig. You're welcome. Be kind to yourself & the patients you clearly do not want to care for --- just stop doing that which is making you miserable.
Life is short. You never know where you are supposed to go, if you stay where you are. Or something like that.
On the upside, the folks I've taken care of usually describe it as the worse day of their lives. I consider it a personal failure if they even remember the experience. Something tells me your patients should be so blessed.
Onward. Good luck!
He/she is a member of the Student Doctor Network forums and occasionally posts here to incite people's emotions. And it works like a charm.
...and yet posts here as a charge nurse in a SNF who does little other than play Candy Crush all night, with lots of suggestions on how other nurses can avoid doing much of anything, either. Odd. Poses as a medical student/resident as well? More odd.
Nursing students are always posting requests for nurses to respond to their 'interview' questions, and we tell them this is not a good way to go about it, as anyone here can claim they are anything at all. Another shining example.
I clean tushes for a living :) The butts talk to me and the poop is MR. Dinky from south park. Each whoof of poop smell is unique. I keep a journal now. I am more sane than ever. LOL hehe
I wipe buttzz for a living and love it. sometimes the crack has too much hair in it. And the moon can have a pimple on it. I wish there was a section in the MAR that I could describe all this. You know to be a responsible nurse and chart full documentation and perhaps save some poop for the physicians and nurse manager to smell. If one is going to truly love nursing then they should really get in to all this. Maybe even SCAT LOL.
All Above is not true, but maybe for someone else. LOL
Just my opinion here.. coming from 13 years as a CNA in LTC, then LPN, now RN.. all in LTC. You. Do. Not. Deserve. To. Wipe. Butts. Yep, that's right. You truly are not deserving. Please find exit to stage left. Please never come near my patients, even to take a blood pressure. Hell, even to watch them for a respiration rate. You do not deserve to be in medicine at all. You are the type of nurse that is hateful and horrible and the reason nurses in my field have a bad rep. No, I don't normally rant AT someone like this.. however, I find you disturbing in the extreme. Go be a fry cook.

Why dump this on the conscientious fry cooks of the world?

This is truly repulsive......and ridiculously juvenile.
Better luck in your next, NON-nursing job.

I have more respect for the average fry cook than that

or supervise nursing staff, or make policy, don't even audit a chart.
Student here. Not getting involved in the debate, but I do have a funny anecdote. Before nursing school, I worked in retail. One of the things that sealed the deal for me when deciding to pursue a career in nursing was all the bodily fluids I had to clean up in a RETAIL setting! Yup, I had to clean up every type of bodily fluid, except amniotic fluid and CSF. I figured, if I am going to be expected to clean up bodily fluids, I might as well be a nurse and get paid three times as much to do it. As a nurse, I will get to use my knowledge, not just my janitorial skills. At least at the bedside, you expect to have to clean your patients. No one expects to have to clean up explosive diarrhea in a grocery store bathroom or vomit off the frozen department sales floor when they're a cashier. (True story! Armed with only garbage bags and gloves as my PPE.) So, here I am in school. My poop scooping days are far from over, but they're more rewarding now.

Some jobs don't require us to wipe bums. Some jobs allow us to delegate away!
