The First Days of Nursing School by the Fall 2009ers!!!

Nursing Students General Students

Alright well I have been wanting to post this for a very long time! Since I first logged on to allnurses I couldn't wait until it was my turn to say, I am a nursing student!!!

So, technically, yesterday was my first day but I was only there for a couple hours. We went right into lecture about the history of nursing and how it's ever changing. We also learned about the different educational paths a nurse can take, but I already did that research beforehand on allnurses :p

Today was mainly orientation and a welcome to our nursing class. We went more in depth about what to expect and also dissected our huge textbook-like syllabus. I am not joking about the size of that syllabus, it's insane. Since starting I have been reading nonstop. We have already been assigned about five chapters to read from our fundamentals book, which is not the most interesting of reads, but it's doable. I'm just overwhelmed really, probably because they talked a lot about what is to come. Over the next month, three papers are due and at the end of each semester we are taking the ATI tests. If we fail those, well then we have to take the course over.

Today was also one of our lab days. So for lab, we watched two videos about ensuring infection control by washing hands and applying ppe and then of course we had to do it. The basics for right now. Tomorrow is another lab day, bedmaking and body mechanics. So I guess I should get back to reading a couple more chapters and stop playing around on allnurses. I am just so happy to have finally made it. I'm still in a state of shock. Somebody pinch me.

Well my first day is today starting at 8am and it is not 6am I have been up since 4am and let me tell you my stomach is hurting so bad (oh man not today) today is my longest day of the week I go until 5p. Pray for me and my stomach!!!:nurse:

This is a bit weird, because they're completely restructuring my program, so things are a bit disorganized right now. But I learned how to wash hands and make an occupied bed...sort of.

Tonight is my first actual nursing class (Fundamentals) but I started last night w/ pathophys. Hello intimidation! I transfered into this school from a CC and let me say that right off of the bat I could tell who had A&P I & II at this school and who had it at the CC (there were a few transfers). Yikes. I had an A in both A&P's from CC and was totally lost on some of the things they were talking about. Guess i'll be boning up on my regular A&P along w/ the patho!

Day One was yesterday...orientation. Did a lot of sitting and listening to great people tell me things I already read in the handbook and on the website. But that's okay since it seemed like new info to a lot of people.

Today it's policies, expectations, honor code, pickup lab coats, etc. More orienting tomorrow and Thursday a.m. "Real" classes start Friday. I can tell I'm not looking forward to carrying all this stuff around and hope to find creative ways around that mess!

:yeah:CONGRATS TO US ALL!!! WTG!

My first day was yesterday. We had Orientation on the 19th and we were given our first assignment that day to have read the first unit, sign onto Evolve for Med Calculations, and Log into Blackboard to take a what kind of learner are you quiz! Wheww!! I don't know if I should count the orientation as my first day or not!! LOL! Yesterday, we started with discussion which explains our skill to be done in lab the following week for pass fail. Then on to Lecture, and then straight to lab where we practiced various CNA skills to be randomly tested on before we go to our clinical sites! Busy! Busy! Busy! Today, just a supp lecture and tomorrow, on-campass Clinical. Then we are done for the week but have to be prepared for the 1st quiz next monday, Unit 2, and random pass fails on our skills! Anybody else the same?

Congratulations to all of you! I'm currently a senior in a BSN program in Rochester,NY. It can get really intense, feel free to contact me if you have any issues/ subjects that you need help with. Good luck to you all!

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL NS 2009 STARTERS!!! YAY!! :yeah:

WE ARE GOING TO BE NURSES!!!!

I keep telling myself that all day today! Today was my very first day of NS! It was kind of more like orientation than actual "lectures" and "labs", but I still enjoyed it!! I think I am just beyond excited to be there that I am like "Whatever you want to tell me I will soak up like a sponge!!" :redbeathe :chuckle

Tomorrow starts are official lectures and then clinical skills are Thursday and Friday.

YAY!!! :nurse:

So happy to finally be called a nursing student!!

i start officially next wednesday at michigan state college of nursing......gimme some noise

anyone in michigan state college of nursing too??start next week???

I officially started last week, but it was all orientation. This week we are actually getting into the material. Everything is overwhelming and intimidating. We jump right into clinical! I have my first real clinical on Thursday, and I am scared to death! I have no idea what to expect and I really don't want my CI to bite my head off. We will be doing baths and occupied beds in clinic because that's what we learned this week in lab. Hopefully, my CNA clinical experience will help me out? Overall, I'm excited! :D

Today was my second day. They kinda did things backwards. We had our lecture class yesterday and orientation today. I only have one question-when will I find time to sleep, eat, take a shower. OMG...so many assignments. I think we all (my fellow classmates) felt the same way when we went through our 500 page course description book (ok I'm exaggerating!). All I can say is...Lord help me through this. :bluecry1:

My 101 class met and we went into vital signs, s1 and s2 sound landmarks, BP, temp., lung sounds etc., simple but interesting. P'cology class met for the first time today, most of the class was lost trying to do dosage calculations. Note to those who have not started yet: read your dosage calculations book a bit and start working some problems before school starts. Also brush up on the metric system if you don't know it well. This will help a bunch.
