I traditionally have a thread heading to the election, here we go.
Get out the popcorn for this one.
QuoteFlorida Gov. Ron DeSantis is expected to formally announce next week he is running for president in 2024, NBC News reported Thursday, citing two sources familiar with the matter.
The governor's official entry into the Republican primary field will put him head-to-head with former President Donald Trump, the party's current frontrunner for the nomination. Trump has already spent months treating DeSantis as his primary campaign rival, thrashing him with torrents of criticism over his gubernatorial record, his political skills and his personality.
So as I said, I got the highlights of the debate. NPR actually didn't have much to say, but I listened to a condensed version on the 5-minute update on NPR. They said Trump repeated the lies about the extreme fraud and that he won the election (interesting that. people, even Biden voters have become numb to this and it's not a deciding issue). They said Biden scammed through, played a clip of his stammering through and answer that sounded rough to me (was it a stutter under stress or cognitive decline, obviously cognitive decline to some) and Democrats were disappointed in his performance, Harris came on and agreed he didn't start off strong but that it's a matter of not this debate but who is the better candidate come November.
Sounds like it came out much as I predicted with Trump behaving himself, but lying, and Biden sounding old. Don't need to know much else.
I snuck over to Fox News and predictably they didn't have nice things to say about Biden and praised "sharp attacks by Trump", but interestingly mentioned Trumps numerous lies. Lies obviously don't matter. People are going to vote for him "even if he lies...I'd rather have someone that lies than......"
Also the poll above is interesting that even with Trump's denying he lost the election and not proving it it's normalized with Democrat voters.
QuoteStruggling with a raspy voice and delivering rambling answers, President Biden struggled during portions of Thursday night's first of two debates with former President Trump in their 2024 election rematch.
But the 81-year-old Biden, the oldest president in American history, at times sharpened his answers, calling out his Republican predecessor in the White House for numerous falsehoods throughout the debate.

"When asked if he supports some restrictions on abortion, Biden said he "supports Roe v. Wade, which had three trimesters. The first time is between a woman and a doctor. A time is between a doctor and an extreme situation. A third time is between the doctor, I mean, between the women and the state.”

This is actually a good thing for most of you here. They're going to have to replace him with a candidate who will have a better chance of winning.
They are going to have to replace the incumbent president in the election, eh? Hahaha
Biden is old but Trump is a liar who still lies about the events of 010621 and the results of the 2020 election. Project 2025 is a threat to our democratic republic.
QuoteDespite concern from some media pundits, early indications suggest there has been "no change" in the polls in the aftermath of the debate, the Washington Post columnist Philip Bump told BBC R4's Today programme.
However, Mr Bump pointed out no "high-quality" polls have been conducted since the debate aired.
Speaking later on the programme, pollster Frank Luntz said most Americans have already made up their minds about who they will vote for later this year.

I'm seeing this played out amongst my social group. The debate made no difference.

I just saw this for the first time.
I've heard the accusation of editing videos to make Biden worse than he is. But let me make sure I understand. You are saying Fox News is using AI to insert a Fake Biden in news clips?
No, that isn't happening. But I do agree that he often looks like a cardboard cutout.

No longer seems to be deep or cheap fakes.
"The recent moments of disorientation generated concern among advisers and allies alike. He seemed confused at points during a D-Day anniversary ceremony in France on June 6. The next day, he misstated the purpose of a new tranche of military aid to Ukraine when meeting with its president.
On June 10, he appeared to freeze up at an early celebration of the Juneteenth holiday. On June 18, his soft-spoken tone and brief struggle to summon the name of his homeland security secretary at an immigration event unnerved some of his allies at the event, who traded alarmed looks and later described themselves as "shaken up,” as one put it. Mr. Biden recovered, and named Alejandro N. Mayorkas."

QuoteDedicated to the "To the Forgotten Men and Women of America," the Republican Party's 2024 platform reads like the transcript of a Trump rally speech.
The Republican National Committee's Platform Committee adopted former President Donald Trump's platform, a document that leans into Trump's preferred "America First" stances and steers away from traditional GOP social issues.
There is a pdf of the actual platform language embeddedin the article. Please take a few minutes to read through it.
QuoteThe platform starts with 20 promises, largely pulling from the tag lines of the former president, including "STOP THE MIGRANT INVASION" and the simplistic "END INFLATION.” Trump's campaign sought to pare down the party platform.
QuoteNotably, the promises don't mention anything about abortion, as Trump attempts to de-emphasize the issue and appeal to swing voters. In the entire platform, the word appears just once, in a statement about the party's dedication to protecting "the issue of life." It reads: "We will oppose Late Term Abortion."
Lies about abortion in the 9th month have become a staple in Trump's campaign speeches. He lied about it at the debate too.

For the most part, it sounds good to me.
Maybe the Democrats will figure out a updated one of their own soon.
Here's the most recent one from 2020. Doesn't seem like they made much progress.
