I traditionally have a thread heading to the election, here we go.
Get out the popcorn for this one.
QuoteFlorida Gov. Ron DeSantis is expected to formally announce next week he is running for president in 2024, NBC News reported Thursday, citing two sources familiar with the matter.
The governor's official entry into the Republican primary field will put him head-to-head with former President Donald Trump, the party's current frontrunner for the nomination. Trump has already spent months treating DeSantis as his primary campaign rival, thrashing him with torrents of criticism over his gubernatorial record, his political skills and his personality.

I'm not surprised you know about Nazis so well.
What? Members here suggest that people who vote Trump are voting for the party of Nazis. Apparently because some nazis may have or may not have voted for him . Msm and democrats sling that word to Republicans all the time. Loool
Thank the democrats for the loss of meaning of the word Nazi.
More liberal hypocrisy

"Left-leaning centrists" bawawaa 🤣
Sure. If they're such centrists why are they pretending to be something they're not by flip-flopping, err, "evolving" from their leftist views on so many issues in trying to get votes, and disappointing the likes of Bernie Sanders and others in the process?

Does Trump pretend to be a Christian? How many times has Vance changed his name? Did he really grow up in Appalachia? Did Trump pretend that he didn't really lose the 2020 election? Was Trump pretending when he said TikTok should be banned or when he said they shouldn't be banned? How about when Trump said there has to be punishment for women who obtain abortions, did he flip flop or pretend? Was Trump pretending when he rolled back Obama cannabis measures or when he changed his mind about legalization? Was Vance pretending when he said that Trump was our Hitler?
Why are they pretending?
Quite a stretch to make those analogies.
Nice deflection, though.
Under what criteria would Harris and Walz be considered "left-leaning centrists"?
toomuchbaloney said:Sure...hyperbole and propaganda like saying Biden has dementia and his FEMA agency is stealing people's property? Like that?
It's weird that you don't know how to identify misinformation or how to recognize disinformation. Maybe it's not weird, maybe it's expected. After all, you're not even certain that January 6th was an attempt to stop the peaceful transition of power on Trump's behalf or that the 2020 election was free and fair.
Your speculation about Harris mistreating people for their opinions is just Laoghaire given that it's Trump who has literally talked about taking action against journalists or political opponents or comedians, etc. Do you realize that you are protecting the crazy things that Trump tasks about doing onto others or are you that poorly informed as to Trump's rhetoric?
You are trying to be clever but you have only succeeded in making yourself look silly and unaware.
I notice you have valiantly deflected from the question.
How does one regulate misinformation exactly? Who decides? What should happen to a person or entity that the chief of misinformation has deemed untrue?
If the true intention was to prevent harm from misinformation, the focus would be to counteract that with the correct information. Unless 9f course it isn't disinformation you want to suppress.
Have an answer for that? Or just weird and silly?

You don't start getting really radical until you hit such ideas as guaranteed minimum income, returning land to the indigenous people we stole it from, total elimination of special privileges for relgious organizations, free publicly funded healthcare and education, banning use of fossil fuels ... you get the idea.
Harris, Waltz. Biden, Obama, Clinton, Carter, and all the rest of the white liberal demons you guys like to invoke, aren't leftist. They're left-leaning centrists and a completely different critter. Mis-naming them as "radical" is funny.
Besides, it doesn't work. We're still here.
As for personal shots: goose, meet gander.
Hyperbole right? Like Republicans are nazis?

I remember when Bernie was the mayor of Burlington, Vt. where I went to undergrad college. People called him all the unoriginal, inchoate names but he put Burlington on the map as an extremely successful and desirable small city. Somehow he did it without "socialism" or communism:) but rather the usual things that build a successful population...good schools, jobs, new businesses, etc.

We govern much of this stuff in society with professional ethics and and standards. We still do, to a large degree.
We generally decide that we have shared interests and shared values and shared truths in both small and large groups.
Trump was the largest single source of misinformation and disinformation about COVID in 2020. That's just reality. What should happen to him? He was the leading cause of confusion and unsafe behavior which ultimately killed tens of thousands of people. He was banned from all of the major social media platforms because his messaging was so obviously dishonest, dangerous, and destructive.
Honestly, it's difficult to answer silly questions that don't have the slightest appearance of thoughtful consideration. The questions strike me as the kind of things that a conman says as they are conning you into accepting the unacceptable... questioning the norms and the standards and offering alternate truths and realities. It's hard to counter the lies when the liar is a powerful figure who discredited the experts and agencies which dared to contradict his lies. Have you ever thought or said that Fauci should be held accountable for some perceived but factually unsupported malfeasance? That's an example.
I mean, how did your momma teach you to recognize a lie or liar? What did you learn about liars and conmen in your life experience or formal education? Why is it hard for Trump supporters to recognize truth, facts or reality when those truths, facts, or realities are unflattering for Trump? Why is that? Do you have an answer for why so many people are so confused about what kind of a man Trump is and how deeply unwell he is?
How do you feel about a President Vance? He wrote the preface for P2025 and has some pretty extremist stances while making up stories targeting immigrants in Ohio.
Trump is in a significant cognitive decline and is increasingly canceling public appearances. He placed a uniquely unqualified liar with extremist views to be the alternative should Trump lose his mind. And here we are.

I would consider the criteria of their voting history, their public political remarks and priorities, things like that. Under what criteria would they be considered something other than left leaning centrists?
Crusades said:You forgot reparations. Just as democrats don't believe that Trump will protect abortion rights, I do not believe for 1 minutes Harris will secure the border. On what evenidence? The last 4 yrs. She will cave to the far left activist in her party.
The misinformation is a major red flag. This is a great idea in theory but so is communism.
For the management of "misinformation " to take place there needs to be a consensus of what is or is not misinformation. Who do we charge for this responsibility? There is no government in history that can be trusted with approving or disapproving the information to the masses.
The best way to combat misinformation is open discussion and providing the correct information. I wonder why the democrats do not like this?
You do realize that it was Trump's spokesperson who introduced us to the Trump world of alternate facts, right? Before Trump we just called that stuff nonsense, silliness, conspiracy theory, baloney, or lies.
You can't gas light us about this topic silly. Trump is the epicenter of lies, propaganda, misinformation, disinformation, and baloney... and here you are pretending to care about managing misinformation while questioning the discernment or intentions of others.
It's so absurd that it's laughable.
Crusades said:I fear we might have to re-learn the terrible lessions that we did when free speech was at threat. I remember 1000's of service people dying to give us the freedom to say what we want. Now Harris and democrats want to silence things they don't like. Or spin and twist any type of information to their favor. Call it misinformation. How convenient. How fascists of them.
Disinformation is the new modern version of "free speech "
What the heck are you talking about?

I'm not talking about Trump.
So the way we will combat misinformation is to use our own values and ethics to identify it? Or how are momma raised us? So how does that translate into how Harris will fight misinformation?
Right now, what you said, we already do this. So what will Harris do? How do you see that working.?
The FBI just released updated data on violent crime. As some info was missing (as Trump said) from the original numbers. It now shows that violent crime is much higher than previously reported.
How do you manage a situation like that?
Is omission of information considered disinformation too?
I bet you will show no concern how the FBI very quietly updated this and the only way to compare the previous numbers was if you previously downloaded them. That's a real threat to democracy.

Do you think that calling someone 'silly or unaware" makes your feelings about various topics credible? It's weird you have a need to personally insulting people in almost every comment you make. Something you complain Trump does ad nauseum.
Disinformation like Hunters laptop? That COVID originated in a gain of function lab?
Well see about election denial if Trump wins. Good thing Pelosi is out, so there should be ample security.
