Singing in my Heart is taking a break from All Nurses. This is not the first time one of our esteemed posters has felt the need to do this. I would like to suggest to the moderators the option to flag a post "against the culture of All Nurses." This way the moderator could be on alert to which threads/posts/posters are driving members away from the site. If members keep flagging posts that are appropriate for this site, they will lose this privilege.
For what it's worth, flouncing makes me cringe at the drama of it. Especially when there's a new thread posted just for the purpose of flouncing.

I agree about that. The "I'm leaving this place forever" proclamation seems a bit undignified.
Better to fade away for awhile, lick your wounds, and then quietly return when you are ready.
People need to grow thicker skin and realize that not everyone is going to agree with you and as long as it is respectfully done it is okay. I did not read the entire thread but I think announcing that you are leaving is immature and attention-seeking. If you are upset, take a break. But don't start another thread that only looks to stir drama.
I get discouraged by the obvious trolling in the Breakroom. There are too many posts that involve snarky remarks and criticism of the posts of others without any other reasonable contribution to the thread. If one wants to be snarky while also attempting to participate in the discussion, fine. But to lurk with only the intent to snipe snark is tiresome.
So that's where the action is? I always miss out on the "good" stuff by looking around after the interesting comments or parts of comments have been removed!
What I really wish could be more moderated is the atrocious spelling, text-speak and grammar exhibited by certain members. It truly makes me cringe when I see self-proclaimed professionals confusing "there", "their" and "they're", misspelling common words, etc. I know auto-correct is a monster, but some of the offenders clearly just don't care.If AN wants to uphold a professional image, I feel this is an area that is sadly neglected and in dire need of attention. I'm aware that text speak is reportable, but much, much more often than profanity or controversial topics, issues pertaining to the English language are largely overlooked, despite the TOS.
I'm a staff member on many sites and probably have a moderate to heavy amount of OCD when it comes to this matter, doing a lot of "housekeeping" type moderating. However, there is just too much for one or more people to spend all of their moderating time doing constant editing if the site filters don't catch this. There would have to be an emphasis on creating a change across the site and all of the staff has to help in the effort for this aspect of the "culture" to change.
I cannot get behind this idea in any way, shape, or form.
Sweeping away opinions and thoughts because they rub a select few the wrong way (meaning not generally offensive to the masses) smacks of a culture I want nothing to do with.
People get annoyed. People get burnt out. People need breaks. People move on. The only way to protect from that is to erase AllNurses from existence.
I have to say I sometimes I'm shocked how some treads take a turn, but I also remind myself that it is only the internet. I also think that some posters on here will take a positive feedback going thread and add a negative comment to mix it up and that's how sometimes it takes a turn, kind of like in real life it's easy to pile on as long as you are not on the receiving end. I also think that some posters have an online persona different from their real life. I have a few posters who I don't agree with most of the time, but at the same time I have posters who are my favorite and enjoy what they post and think they seem so cool and a good nurse. Despite some of the negativity I enjoy AN, I enjoy the stories, and the discussions. I also enjoy posting pick-me-ups and reminders to your profession that you have some supporters and fans that admire and appreciate your profession. If I made one nurse feel better after a crappy shift I have done my job. :)
From a patient perspective in regards to grammar, I know some posters won't agree with me but as a patient I don't look at your profession any differently because of how you use grammar on the internet or elsewhere for that matter, even someone who is well educated have things they don't excel in, as long as you know nursing and how to take my pain away and educate me on the skills I need to know in regards to my health that's what is most important to me.

But what about opinions that "the masses" find offensive but are still perfectly legitimate to hold? Just because people might hold on to beliefs or ideas that the general public doesn't like doesn't mean they should be censored. Being in the majority is no guarantee of being right, and shouldn't be justification for shutting other people up.

Having been nursed on the teat of band online message boards that have almost no moderation at all, AN is sunshine and roses.
The only time I've been immensely ticked off behind this key board is when another long term member questioned my real life practice despite the right way to handle the subject matter was ambiguous and variable to begin with. I simply left the thread. Easy enough to do.
Water off a duck's back. I can't even remember who ticked me off so much; I only remember the subject and my reaction and that the other poster was a familiar name.
