The culture of AN

Published

Singing in my Heart is taking a break from All Nurses. This is not the first time one of our esteemed posters has felt the need to do this. I would like to suggest to the moderators the option to flag a post "against the culture of All Nurses." This way the moderator could be on alert to which threads/posts/posters are driving members away from the site. If members keep flagging posts that are appropriate for this site, they will lose this privilege.

You know, a while back, I took a LONG break from AN. Like 2 years. I was getting increasingly annoyed at posts and members. I realized the problem was mostly me anyhow. Never let the internet affect your real life and the people in it. If it is, a break is indeed, in order. We also need to develop a sense of humor and thick skin, just as in real life nursing. It helps a lot.

As an outsider (consultant) who recently joined AN, my perspective is that there are a few posters who spoil it for the rest. I've only been here two weeks and I've already been called a heartless "hack" who doesn't care about nurses. How's that for a warm welcome...?!

stewstew03,

Welcome to Allnurses. Check out the site because there's lots too see. The Breakroom is for nonnursing discussions. Some threads are funny, some downright silly, and there's a political section plus current events. There are many different threads so there's something for everyone. Right below Nursing Jobs, is a blue Breakroom you can tap and it will take you there. You will probably have to sign in again.

Have fun and check out both sides. Ask any questions you may think of and we'll do our very best to answer them.

GrnTea is around....we won't take the report feature away ;)...you can always PM one of us too.

Glad to hear that. She is one I miss the most, especially in the student threads but I definitely understand her need for taking a break from it.

Someone else mentioned Tweety. When I first joined, he posted lots. Then came some years where I barely was on AN, not for any particular reason. When I came back, I was saddened to see he no longer posts here.

Sometimes a break is a good thing and needed. I have been a member for quite a while (10 years!) myself and am gone for periods of time for all the above reasons. I hope she considers taking a break and coming back someday.

Honestly, this so call "goodbye message" is just a cry for attention, like a teen on Facebook posting about "cleaning their friends list so reply if you want to stay on" I think that if you need people to beg you to stay, then you have bigger issues beyond getting rude comments from random unimportant Internet trolls (A troll like me once on a while)
