This has been the longest week ever!!! I need Thanksgiving Break. Just heard the announcement "Please release Mr.__________________ 5th period class to the cafeteria. You guessed it, field trip I knew nothing about. And at this late hour, his problem and not mine!!!

And passes - I swear I want to kill these teachers. How hard is it to fill out a darn pass?? Especially when we are doing tardy freezes randomly this week.

Or they can complete a pass with every single box checked under symptoms with a diagnosis and treatment plan written and don't forget the frowny face!!! However, they cannot write the kid's name ant what time they left class.

Wait, I'm coming over your house, instead.

You'll have to bring your own guac! I also have Cocoa Stout... Mmmmmmmmmm.....

This week has been basketball injuries all over the place! I have a tub of rubbing alcohol and I'm going to make a ton of home made ice packs over lunch since the students don't bring back my blue ones.

Come on weekend! Netflix and Chunky Monkey is calling my name!

Today is a "my stomach hurts" day, a.k.a. "I'm just here to poop a lot in your bathroom" day.

And yesterday I spent working with the most frustrating student precepting with me this Fall.

I need a drink...thank goodness it is Friday.

Today is Homecoming. Ugh. I used to love it as a parent - now as a school nurse - not so much. Today is a day of fun filled activities and Pep rally's. But for me it is a day of no one remembering their meds and me having to move heaven and earth to find where they are!!

Oh, edited to add to my wonderful Friday - got my first case of head lice today!! Woot.

This week has felt like the longest month ever. Ugh.

I have dealt with broken bones and frostbite. Over it.

Gonna need some clarification on the frostbite.

Dare I say it?? It has been quite light in the clinic for 3 weeks. That is after the start-up from hell for the first 3 weeks of school.

But thank heavens for low visits this week and kids who seem to be busy with other things rather than vomiting, breaking bones, or faking sick because an administrator walked up with a letter I've been looking for everywhere!!

This is my 2nd year as a school nurse and last year, in early September, I received a letter with the news that I must audit all of K5 and 7th grade immunization forms and report to the local board of health. Cool...ahem. The majority of 7th grade parents, I've found, haven't blessed us with an updated immunization record since their precious angel was audited in kindergarten. And these crunchy, hippie, granola-eating K5 parents these days are all doing the delayed schedule or, heaven forbid, not vaccinating at all. Trust me, the board of health just ain't taking either of those as an answer when I explain why my sweet precious babies don't have complete immunization records on file all nice and neat.

SOOO, all September I've been looking for this letter because it hasn't reared it's ugly face. We have an all new front office staff and I've been grilling them with "have you seen my dept of public health letter?!?" for weeks. Nothing. Blank stares.

I was less than thrilled when our ancient, been here forever and a day, human resources dinosaur, sauntered down the hall with my letter YESTERDAY and asks, "do I give this to you? Is this yours?" Yep, it was my letter. Postmarked September 2nd. That gives me roughly 20 less days than I would've had to work on this huge project. 20 less days that my parents will have to wait until the very.last.second to give me their forms that probably aren't complete anyway.

So I spent ALL of yesterday auditing every single file and finding that 80% of the 7th grade, as suspected, is incomplete.

So, the silver lining in all of this, is that my visits have been low. But, perhaps my visits are low because I growl at the children when they walk by the clinic. I'm just guessing...

A spot became available at one of our high schools, so I jumped right on that one. Couldn't get out of the elementary school I was assigned to fast enough! Not an appropriate placement for an LVN at all. So, I've been here 4 days and have had 2 911 calls already. Still glad I'm here though. Have a great weekend, everyone.
