Texas Women University FALL 2016

Published

Anyone applying to Texas Women University? I recently attended an information session and spoke to Ms.Victoria the nursing coordinator for TWU. What are your stats? What advice to you give when studying for the TEAS? I know you have to apply for TWU first then get accepted. Then you apply to TWU NURSING. But I am somewhat confused on that process. I went to the apply portal and it does not give me the option to apply for FAll of 2016. I may have to wait. Any current TWU students that can give me any advice on the application process. It will be of great help. Thank you!

Thank you so much for this info! Can you tell us more about what to expect our first semester?!

Well.. it will be BUSY! There is a LOT of info! If you aren't organized then you need to figure out how to be quickly.Invest in a planner to keep track of everything.

Some weeks are harder than others. One week we had a test Monday, a test Tuesday, a check off during assessment lab and a pass/fail math test all in the same week. But it is DOABLE! I am also working 20 hours a week this semester and I'm hanging in there! You will hear constantly - it's so hard... nursing school will take over your life.. and all that is true but if you stay on top of things and don't get behind you will be fine. The test are hard... learning how to choose the "most" correct answer is tricky but if you really know the material you will be fine. There have been days between tutoring, class and studying I've been on campus from 6am-9pm.

Sign up for the mentor program during orientation. It is helpful to have a person you can ask questions to all semester. You will make friends quickly in the program because you will be together all the time. There is also peer tutoring for all of the classes so take advantage of that if you need it. All of this stuff is free. The instructors are also super helpful if you are struggling. I feel like I am just sort of rambling on here so if you have any specific questions you can PM me! :)

It is a lot of work but it is fun (most days) and the stress will all be worth it in the end! Plus it goes by FAST!

@dnw06

Thanks so much for all of this info & for responding! This was really helpful! I'll definitely PM you as questions arise, and if you think of any other stuff you wanna add let us know! [emoji5]️

...That's being said, with the bump, you have around +20 points more, and with the a bachelor degree, +10 points more.

Welp, it looks like I'm going to have to take 36 hours of blow off classes like Racquetball and Vigorous Walking 1013, so I can get that 20 point bump. Hey, healthy body healthy mind right?

I'm sure they'll call you of the wait list or there is always spring. Surely it's not going to be this competitive every time. I've noticed that a high teas in the 90s is very helpful too though. Play around in that excel spreadsheet that calculates points. It's very helpful to see where you need to be. Your stats are already amazing and the only thing you could possibly move the mark with its the teas. But I still think you'll get called off the wait list.

I'm curious, does anyone have an idea of how many people usually get called from the waitlist?

Here's a quote from Heather Close's email pertaining to those who where wait listed.

I wish I could be more specific, but things vary each semester. Telling you a number isn't going to mean much. I could tell you that you are #1 on the list, but they may never add any additional students. Alternately, there have been semesters where 50 or so students were admitted. There's just no point to worrying you all with numbers right now. A lot of it depends upon how many students decline their spots, or how many don't show to the May new student orientation, or how many don't realize that their criminal background isn't as clean as they thought, and thus can't start in fall.

I know you're anxious, and, believe me, we root for you. You'll be informed more clearly after April 1st.[/Quote]

I got into Houston, 3.4 GPA overall, idk my science gpa right now as i had a new A added to the 3.0 i had. I got 84.3 overall TEAS and i have a bachelor's degree

Congratulations to you all that got in and to those that didnt believe me I know the feeling but DONT GIVE UP! You got this far keep going!!!:)

Congrats!!! What was your prereq GPA?

Congrats!!! What was your prereq GPA?

I think she just said she doesn't know.

Hey Divine! Thank you!

My figures were as follows (I was so excited when I made that post I couldn't think straight LOL)

(According to the spreadsheet that I double checked over and over :roflmao:)

Nursing Core GPA was 3.4

Pre-Req GPA was 3.327

I graduated with a degree in Social Work Cum Laude in 2012

I also have tons of hospital experience (I'm not entirely sure they take this into account. I don't remember having to answer anything related to healthcare experience like I did with UTMB.)

My total score on the worksheet was 42.67. From what I can see having the scores I have and without a degree I would have had 8 total TWU points lower according to the spreadsheet even with the same TEAS score.

So having a degree does count for them (unlike a lot of other nursing schools).

When I took away the "prior degree" question and answered "No" it also took away my "TWU preference" (which for the record I didn't take any classes at TWU).

Having TWU preference as well as a degree put me at 48.67 (6 points higher than my score).

I hope this helps and if you were waitlisted I really hope they call you for the Fall! Good luck and don't give up!!!:)

Hey krstnwilson!

For this particular program, I made sure that I had at least 16 credits hours at TWU since I also had a previous Bachelors. If you don't have a degree already, I believe it is 32 hours at TWU in order to get that preference. I'm glad I got both those bumps! :)

My GPA was about a 3.43 and my TEAS was an 84% overall. I recommend sitting down with a TWU advisor and asking what you need to do in order to appear competitive. I retook a class from my previous degree and made sure I took the hours needed for the bump, like I said before, since my advisor suggested I do that. Good luck!

Thank you! Your information is very helpful! Do you know your total points total? It seems you may have had about 49? I didn't know that with a previous bachelor's degree you get the TWU preference with less credits from their. That's good to know.

So if u have a bachelors degree u only need 16 credit hours to get the bump?
