Texas Women University FALL 2016

Published

Anyone applying to Texas Women University? I recently attended an information session and spoke to Ms.Victoria the nursing coordinator for TWU. What are your stats? What advice to you give when studying for the TEAS? I know you have to apply for TWU first then get accepted. Then you apply to TWU NURSING. But I am somewhat confused on that process. I went to the apply portal and it does not give me the option to apply for FAll of 2016. I may have to wait. Any current TWU students that can give me any advice on the application process. It will be of great help. Thank you!

How many extra points does the TWU bump add?

It's about 20 points.

She just replied and told me she got it ;)

Hi all,

I got accepted to the Houston campus!

My GPA is 2.9 & teas is 74.7%. I also qualified for the bump because I have 32 credit hours at TWU.

Good luck everyone!!

Congrats!!!!!!!!! Is 2.9 your prerequisite GPA for the 7 classes or your overall GPA?

Just got word that they might be removing the TWU student preference bump for next semester. However, I can't fully verify the credibility of the source. I'm going to be speaking with Heather Close at nursing admissions to clear up rumors, questions, and make preparations for the future. Does anyone have any questions or concerns that I can ask her to help clear things up? My appointment is April 5th and I make sure to post her answers on this forum. I'm a wait listed transfer student, but for anyone who made it I can ask her any questions you have as well.

That is great news if it comes to fruition! I will be applying for Fall 2017 Weekend/Evening. Can you ask if they will still be using the TEAS V when the format is changed in August? Thank you for your help and information.

Oh, well actually I can answer that now. I spoke with one of the advisors (Donna Stallings) and she said that I will be able to use my TEAS score from this application cycle (Fall 16) on the next one (Spring 16). Nothing is changing regarding the use of the TEAS V exam.

"I have asked Heather Close in CON to assist you with that question. You can definitely use the same TEAS score for a future application period. If you end up deciding to retake the test, just remember that we always use the most recent score, regardless of whether it is higher or lower. "

So, I thought I would post a really informative and helpful tips to help you all get into TWU from my experience.

I'm a TWU student here in Denton; however, I only have 22 credits here at TWU, so with that being said, NO BUMP for me.

I also don't have a bachelor degree, and I applied for nursing here in TWU three times already. I got in for Houston campus this semester with my stats:

GPA: 3.74

Teas: 88.9

No Bump or Bachelor degree.

I also filled in the work sheet that TWU provided here : Current & Prospective Students - TWU College of Nursing - Texas Woman's University .It's said Baccalaureate GPA Worksheet [xls].

Please put in all your GPA and Teas. After all you should find your "SCORE" underneath the "Additional Math and Wellness" box all the way to the right". It's very hard to see, but it's there.

So with my GPA and Teas filled in, my "SCORE" is about 42, and I played around with the worksheet a little more. I pretended putting my GPA in as I had took classes at TWU and having the bump. With the SAME GPA and TEAS, "my SCORE" was 61. And having a bachelor, I would have 51.

That's being said, with the bump, you have around +20 points more, and with the a bachelor degree, +10 points more.

So if you have the same stats as I do or even a little bit higher (without the bump or a bachelor) , should you apply for Dallas campus? _ ABSOLUTELY NOT, I don't want to discourage anyone, but your best chance is Houston if you don't have those. Do I feel unfair? Yes, but it is how it is.

Another factor that makes Dallas Campus so competitive is that TWU partner with University of Dallas for our Nursing Program. I found this out while volunteering with a girl who studies at Uni of Dallas. It sucks. They basically guarantee to get in if they do the UD‐TWU Dual Degree Partnership : http://udallas.edu/constantin/academics/programs/nursing/_documents/nursing_handout.pdf

Also, take advantage of having the chance to take the TEAS multiple times. Previous semesters, we couldn't do this (only one time per cycle) . I also have a TIP for taking the Teas. Inbox me if you want to know.

Rather than that, good luck to y'all. I struggled thru this so much, but it's definitely worth it. I would love to help anyone that have questions about anything relating scores and tests.

Donna Stallings is no longer a nursing advisor at TWU.

That must be a new change. She was my advisor throughout my entire time at TWU and she was great!

SAME HERE!! I really miss her! I am happy for her because she is a the new coordinator for Academic Transitions!

Also, I will say that I do not believe that they would remove the TWU Bump. I am not sure, but it would be odd for them to not give preference to the students who take classes at their particular university. They may switch up the way it is done, but I don't think they would just remove it all together.

Another thing, I am not sure who that is that had a 2.9 GPA, but that is below the minimum required to get in at all, let alone be competitive (even for Houston which is much less competitive). IDK, but something doesn't seem right with there.
