Every nursing class has one....the much hated and ever present teacher's pet! There is a girl in my classes who is head of the Student Nursing Association that is absolutely cooed upon by my
nursing instructors. She kisses up to the instructors by adding an extra 10 pages to her careplans and requests extra homework for the entire class. Yesterday she gave an oral presentation that was supposed to go for 10 minutes. She went on and on for almost 45 minutes, keeping the rest of us in class 30 minutes late!
You'd think the professor would cut her short and remind her of the 10 minute time limit. No, instead she is given a standing ovation by the professor. Plus, the presentation was supposed to be about an intrapartum subject; she chooses post-partum depression. Hello!!!! Not even a viable INTRApartum topic. Anyone else have any teacher's pet gripes?

Nope I don't think I have anything even close to that! I think I can say of a few that maybe are "picked on" by some instructors, but they remain very equal in how they treat us all. Your story is however, brutal...the student needs a stoning....LOL

OMG... I have to add in one... it's nothing major but I was like 'puleeez'. We were taking a big test and this one chick went up to ask the teacher a question and I swear she stood there like 10 minutes trying to get answers out of the teacher! I was thinking "sit down and take yer frickin test like everyone else". I think the teacher was thinking the same thing. Squeeky wheel gets the grease I guess.
oh, oh... and the students who so nicely suggested that their teacher give tests every week for (us) student next semester b/c they didn't like having so much on each test. I was like "speak for yourself!!!" I hate having a bunch of tests and I will die if we have tests *every* week. *sigh* c'est la vie

Oh yes, we had a couple of these in school. When we were about to graduate we had the Dean come in and ask us for our opinions on what changes we thought would be beneficial for new students. These jerks made suggestions to add another required pharmocology course, to increase clinical hours, ect, ect, ect.....
Dean thought these suggestions were great. Well of course these suggestions would just create more work for the new, and lower level students. These students would have screamed if they actually had to do the work that they were suggesting for the new students. I agree with Bex- time for a stoning!

Hmm I don't think my class has a teacher's pet, but I know the suck-ups who try to be.

We actually do not have any teacher's pets.
However we do have our own "Band Camp". If anyone remembers that thread where someone described that student in class who had a story for everything, then ya know what i mean.
This girl, i swear, every ailment, disease or disorder we talk about she's either had it, her kids had/have it, or she knows someone that had/has it. Drives us nuts. Soon as were started talking about Kawasaki's disease, 5 seconds later "My friends, from high school, she.....". So she's sort of the teacher's pet because she has a story for EVERYTHING.

There is always one, you know him or her the first day of class. The day you are told to wear street clothes to class and there they are. A uniform, usually the wrong one with white polished shoes with extra high bright gloss, so bright it reflects in your eyeglasses. You have to hold your hand up to block the glare, so you can see the rest of the students. You try to introduce yourself to your new class and after you say Hello I am...the hand goes up and the squirming in the seat happens because already "it" wants to show you and the whole class how brilliant they are.
Then the plotting begins. How can I make my instructor and the rest of the classmates miserable for an entire semester......Then the drug index cards are needed and when you ask "it" the side effects of the drug it's patient is taking, before you finish the sentence you hear "nausea vomiting and diarrhea" (Duh!)
In lecture, you try to get the business of the day done and every third sentence it raises it's hand wiggles and squirms so you have to stop and it asks a question that would have been answered in the next 30 seconds.
Care Plans, it turns in the care plan stating an NG tube is a problem, not the solution for the inability to swallow being the problem, and argues for 30 minutes that you, the instructor are wrong, threatens to take you to the Dean for being unfair. I can feel my blood pressure going up as I type. I will write chapter 2 of the student from hell after my Neck Vein Distention returns to normal. Do not sell your instructors short, it is the reason why Nursing Instructors are at the bottom of the pay rate food chain

Yes, we have several "arm shooters" in our class also, they squirm and flag the teacher down until they get heard. I think they participate extra hard to get a few extra points in lecture, but as attested to above, it generally makes the lecture last longer than intended and often the discussion takes on a whole different path all together.

I am sorry found this thread particularly funny. Um, I have to say no, we really don't have any teacher's pets in my class, but we certainly have our share of annoying suck-ups. You know the ones that ask questions they already know the answers to just to show off their knowledge.
Thanks for the laugh, just finding this all amusing today.
