Tattoos?

Published

Hi guys im planning to cross of my bucketlist and its having a tattoo. Thinking of getting a sleeve one(whole arm). Wondering if I get fired or maybe have a hard time getting a job for this? I know the responsibility of it by covering during work hours, maybe wearing sleeves or wearing thermal and stuff to cover it. Any insights and opinions? Thanks!

It's your body...right? Just make a mature judgment about it and understand it could potentially have some negative impact. Bottom line it is your sole decision, interesting though how much vitriol is in some of the posts. Personal story: As I walked out of the house at age 18 to the Marines my 5'2'' Mom told me if I got a tattoo she would skin it off of me. Being a lifelong believer in making Mama happy I never gave into the desire to get an EGA (Eagle,Globe, Anchor (USMC insignia)). Now that I'm on the distal side of life it "ain't" a big deal, especially since Mama's still here! On a personal side some skin art is beautiful some not, they do fade with sun and age but thankfully true beauty, what's inside never goes away.

I have two guys who work for me with jail house tattoos., one guy for over a decade. He got his tat in Dallas County Jail while locked up, all it cost him was a honeybun. It was intereting how they did the tat with stuff allowed inside the jail

I am sure the person giving the tattoo wasn't licensed.

Ok, you really need to sit down for a second.

Jailhouse tats by definition are done by amateurs. Of course there's no regulation or licensure there.

Most of them are to show gang affiliation or let other inmates know who a particular inmate inmate belongs to.

Something tells me you already know this, but you just want to contradict anything being said.

I just realized Pinay said county jail. Who's giving tats in the county lock up?

I get it. The association of the 2 was insulting.

Insulting? How? Do you not know anything about other cultures? Are they actually not teaching this anymore in any school or maybe you think those patients had a choice or brought their stay in the concentration camps or slavery upon themselves? If you are insulted by real life and can not show some compassion to patients of other cultures...............well I guess that says a lot. Not all tattoos are art work and you should be sensitive enough that some might not share your same enthusiasm tattoos.

Seriously. You get more & more insulting every post you make. I'm JEWISH! I think I know what you are referring to.

You are COMPLETELY & TOTALLY missing the point. We are talking about tattoos people are CHOOSING to get. NOT at ALL the same thing.

Please stop making references you know nothing about. It's really, really upsetting. Obviously YOU are the one who has no compassion for other people's culture. Because there are tattoos in some cultures that mean a lot.

Which is exactly why I keep mine covered in professional settings. :) I do have relatives who were tattooed in those camps, so yeah ... I get it.

I have worked with lots of people in the hospital who had tattoos. At one time, they were made to cover them completely and now it seems they are a little more visible. I have nurses in clinic with them, most of the time pts don't object. A few years ago, I had an LPN with tattoo of syringe and blood dripping from the needle. I got several complaints from pts about this particular one, so I asked her to cover it up at work. She was offended, but I felt it better for her to be offended than all the patients......

Forgot to hit the quote button but responding to:

"Is this your first tattoo? You might want to try just one before deciding on an entire sleeve.

Outside of that, no one seems to care anymore about tattoos. You will get a lot of shade from coworkers if they think they're unprofessional. A topic search will show you what I mean."

Exactly what I was thinking. A sleeve is a huge commitment, especially if you're new to the tattoo world. Maybe start with one and build your way up to a sleeve.

Nope. You misunderstood us. Absolute respect for the people who have been wronged and how they feel about tattoos. I was responding to the fact that those of us who have it as art or an expression of something we feel is beautiful, shouldn't be spoken about in the same context. AS it all tattoos are offensive.

I think you'll face some obstacles with employers, but who cares if it's in your bucketlist? Just do it)

I've always thought that full sleeve tats are the best ones. They look really awesome.

That's cheating; everything looks awesome on Adam Levine. :inlove:

Nah...I've had no problem getting jobs and both my arms are sleeved. I did have to wear long sleeves ALL THE TIME at my last job which was awful at times, overheating and sweating like crazy. It's pretty lame when you have to cover yourself up; my tats aren't offensive at all. Seems wrong to make people change their appearance. That's a rant for another day.

I say get the tat...make sure your artist is using high quality ink, as in the kind that doesn't have loads of heavy metals in it (not good for you).
