Tattoos?

Published

Hi guys im planning to cross of my bucketlist and its having a tattoo. Thinking of getting a sleeve one(whole arm). Wondering if I get fired or maybe have a hard time getting a job for this? I know the responsibility of it by covering during work hours, maybe wearing sleeves or wearing thermal and stuff to cover it. Any insights and opinions? Thanks!

I have two guys who work for me with jail house tattoos., one guy for over a decade. He got his tat in Dallas County Jail while locked up, all it cost him was a honeybun. It was intereting how they did the tat with stuff allowed inside the jail

I am sure the person giving the tattoo wasn't licensed.

And I'm sure the self-made trailer park lab 'technician/pharmacist' who creates methamphetamine via the shake 'n' bake method, hand-presses ecstasy pills, and dispenses stolen Percocet is also unlicensed/unregulated.

Professional pharmacy is a regulated field, as is professional tattooing. Unprofessional jailhouse/prison tattoo businesses and unprofessional trailer park laboratories are unregulated (and illegal).

Wondering why you are contemplating doing something , that has the potential to "get fired or maybe have a hard time getting a job."

No one know how a full sleeve tattoo could impact your future career. Are sure you want to find out?

No, they don't want find out. They are just very convinced of their power to force their values and preferences onto other people, and make other people bend to their will. That may have worked on doting parents, but it won't work on everyone and it usually doesn't work in the dating world or the workplace.

If you are "trouble" or "look weird" and can easily be replaced by some less controversial person, you will be passed over or replaced. Just as the tattoo devotees have a right to their opinion that tatts are fantastic and should be allowed everywhere, OTHER PEOPLE have an equally valid right to think tatts are inappropriate or ill-advised or unattractive or low-class. You can try to make the whole world conform to your opinions, but don't be surprised at the backlash you'll eventually experience. This tattoo nonsense has been around so long that a lot of people, myself included, just look at tattoos as more booring foolishness, more Look-at-MEEEEEEEEE.

Well tell that to the employers that hired me. Several. With tattoos. You need to educate yourself. I don't get tattoos for anyone BUT ME! There are people of all ages who have tattoos, do you think everyone forces their opinion on their bosses? Hell no. In fact, people with tattoos are less judgmental, maybe you should get one & calm down!

You have NO valid points to your opinion, by the way. I have not known of anyone personally who was fired due to their ink. What does that say?

Guess what, there are a lot of people who cause trouble who DON'T have tattoos. Surprise! I have never received backlash in my professional life, ever. Never! Tattoos are becoming more accepted. You may hate it, but that's how it is.

Since most young patients have them, they will appreciate a nurse who also has them.

I have one that sometimes peaks through a bit depending on the scrub. I have had a lot of compliments from patients and some family members too. Often has been a good conversation starter...not that it was my intention when I got it...just something interesting that I've noticed and so when a patient has one, and it is an appropriate time and subject, I comment on them to start conversation to help them open up when they are nervous or worried for example.

This is sad but, I once had a 5 yr old patient who had magic marker drawings all over her arms and stomach. I asked her what they were about. She said, "they are gang tattoos!" WOW! that was an eye opener.

Maybe it's because in L&D I work with a much younger patient population or something, I don't know, but y'all....tats and piercings in intimate places and rainbow hair and all kinds of different forms of expression via body art don't even faze me any more. I had a patient the other night who had ink covering her body, plus piercings. *shrug* Whatever. I work with inked nurses and docs, too. It just isn't something that registers on my "wow-o-meter" any more.

Truly, people who have issues with tattoos and piercings and the like, you really do need to learn how to get past your own personal bias. These forms of expression are becoming extremely common, and they cross all socioeconomic, racial, age, and ethnic barriers. People used to freak out about women wearing pants in public, too, and yet here we are, and the world hasn't ended yet. ;)

I have one tattoo on the inside of my left wrist. It's pretty meaningful to me - I drew it myself and my kids each have a small drawing in there, too. I got it after I reached a pretty huge goal in my life.

I love it, and I don't care what anyone else thinks of it/me. Though people rarely notice mine.

If I have to cover it up for work, a bandaide will do the job.

How is a person tattooing themselves forcing their beliefs on other people?

My tattoo has nothing to do with anyone but myself. :/

You are giving examples of jail house tattoos as an argument that she is INCORRECT! What?

Anyone realize that the people who hate tattoos don't have any valid points that tattoos are "bad"?
