Tarrant County Fall 2011 Applicants

Published

Hello,

I'm applying to the fall nursing program in January. I'm super excited but I still have some unanswered questions. I tried calling the Nursing Dept at the South Campus and left a message but have not heard a response.

I'm trying to find out what teas version they are testing with in the spring for fall entry. I have read tons of threads from TCC for the past few semesters and it is nice to start a new one for nursing hopefuls like me.

I'm taking Micro in the fall and getting a math class knocked out for BSN. Anyway, hope to get some responses.

I honestly don't remember. I know I bought the med math book, the apa book, and one of the text books. I figured I would just get some of them out of the way.

I really like the med math book, I got the 5th edition. I have been working through the chapters over the past week. I'm about to head downtown and hit the bookstore.

I just got my book in the mail today. I will start working once I'm back from OK. I like Math but I have to work at it to get my stuff right. This makes me nervous.....

Does anyone know if for med tests we are allowed to use calculators?

Ugh! Every single time (which has only been 3 times during this entire app period) I call TCC nursing, they are so RUDE! I am really hoping I did not make a mistake by choosing them. I pray that the program is not a reflection of the people who are working in the nursing deaprtment....although I don't see how it couldn't be.

Sorry to hear that studentcL. I have called the Nursing department several times and the people I have spoken with have been extremely nice. So far, I have only heard good things about the professors teaching the program. I have a friend currently in the program and she only has one semester to go. Good luck next time you call.

Yeah, i'm sorry they are mean to you too! I went by today and dropped off a lot of my stuff and they were extremely helpful and nice!

I feel accomplished today! I got my TB skin test done, which was my last immunization to do, along with my medical insurance, photo, and doctors approval turned in. I went by the bookstore and order 2 magnetic nametags along with buying my patches! I also signed up for my CPR class but I forgot to go by the business center and pay for it so I'll have to do that when I turned in my TB results. I went by an actual scrub store (arlington medical supply) but can't find any pants that fit me! I'm a really weird body build... 5' with hips and a small waist and can never find petite sizes so I'll have to order them online.

Man, I envy yall already getting your books! I feel like I have so much done but nothing compared to some of you. I just have to do it on my days off work which isn't that often because I'm trying to save up for school! Ah, so exciting!

Oh, and they said on the letter that schedules should be posted 2 weeks after turning in the sheets.. so it should be June 23rd! My friend is there mon-thurs for her summer pysch class so she's been checking the board for us!

Wow lmd, you shouldnt feel bad , you've done a lot more than me...I need to get on it!!

Hhaha ok I feel better now!!! :) it's ok... We will get it done! I can't believe we start clinicals pretty soon!!

I got my patches, one set of scrubs, stethascope, and an anatomy coloring book yesterday. I figured th ecoloring book would be a nice refresher and coloring is relaxing.

Loly- math is not my thing either, but this book makes it easy. Plus I think the fact that it is all formulas that are dealing with medications it makes it more fun. It's math that you can see yourself actually using. I am on the section where it shows how to figure IV drips, and so far I have figured it out.

The Clinical Calculations Made Easy book, I got the 5th edition b/c that is what South campus had. It is to help get familiar with dimensional analysis. I don't think it is required, just recommended. You can probably find the 4th edition used for a lot less than what I paid.

So you people who've already bought books: does that mean you've figured out that the "limited time offer package deal" talked about in our packet is not really a good deal...too many books we won't really use? new versions when older will do?

Speaking of, would ya'll mind posting what edition, price and store/site you purchased from so we can compare with what we find? It would be great to know what editions are acceptable and how much they should cost. I'm hoping to get older print versions for next to nothing, then purchase the current e-book, if that's ok.
