Hello,
I'm applying to the fall nursing program in January. I'm super excited but I still have some unanswered questions. I tried calling the Nursing Dept at the South Campus and left a message but have not heard a response.
I'm trying to find out what teas version they are testing with in the spring for fall entry. I have read tons of threads from TCC for the past few semesters and it is nice to start a new one for nursing hopefuls like me.
I'm taking Micro in the fall and getting a math class knocked out for BSN. Anyway, hope to get some responses.
Hey guys! I've been reading these threads for a week or so now and just got all my stuff set up to actually be able to contribute! I'm a TCC fall 2011 applicant and very anxious.I took my TEAS test today.. got a 85.3% overall which sounded bad to me until I saw the national/program average. my score landed me in the 98th percentile. I studied the verison 3/4 book for a couple weeks and then realized they changed the test after reading one of these threads.. so I quickly switched the version 5. I hope everyone does great on their TEAS!! I am so nervous about this wait.. I have a 3.5 science GPA and have many nursing courses taken at my two previous universities but am taking PHED in summer (I thought my PHED class transferred, but it didn't
). I'm sooo nervous though!!!
I just want to tell everyone not to base yourself off of everyone else and all these "conditions". Yes, it is important to do very well on the science and math portion of the TEAS and your science GPA is HUGE but believe in yourself. My best friend is currently in her second semester of TCC nursing school and she got in with a 3.5 science and a 73% overall on TEAS with science and math being in the high 70's. she also applied to the program while taking PHED so it technically counted as her not having it done. Her mom also applied with her and got in without having all three of the classes you don't have to have done.. granted she did have a 3.75 science and 83 overall on TEAS. (They both took the version 3/4 of the TEAS and applied for fall 2010 admission)
WE CAN DO THIS!!!!!.. hopefully!.. :uhoh21:
Thank you for all the information!
I took the TEAS test yesterday and did horribly on it! I scored a 70% overall, embarrassing I know. I have 3.7 overall gpa and a 4.0 in my sciences. I really don't know what happened yesterday. I went into the test thinking I was going to do super since I have been studying the study guide for over a month. Oh well, the only thing I can do now is just hope and pray that my TEAS score doesn't hold me from getting in. The pressure is really kicking in and I cant wait till May rolls around, its gonna be a long 2 1/2 months!
Good luck to everyone!
Ohyeah!21, don't be embarrassed. If what we are told is true and the national average has dropped 10%, then had you taken the previous test you most likely would have marked an 80%. Would you be embarrassed with an 80%? Check the Form you took. Did you get Form A or Form B? I have been told Form B is harder. You did good, be proud. :yelclap:
ohyeah!21: I agree with above,... that is not a bad score and you should NOT be embarassed!!! Your grades are amazing and your science GPA could not get any better so don't worry about it (even though I know it is literally impossible). How did you do on the science and math portion? From what I heard, those two sections will matter and the other two not as much. We are almost opposite from eachother. You have a 4.0 science GPA with a lower TEAS and I have a 3.5 science GPA with a higher TEAS. LOL funny how we are the "same" but not.. maybe I'm just finding humor in that because I'm freaking out too... lol :) but I do envy your science GPA. Unfortunately, when I took my first two sciences (chem and micro) I wasn't as focused because I didn't realize how much the nursing program was competitive and what it was all about.. so I received B's in both and then A's in both A&P's.
I love reading all these threads though because it seems like everyone has gone through some kind of tough situation with applying or getting to this situation to apply. I started out at OU as a nursing major and took a bunch of classes that, unfortunately, do not matter here. For instance, they require zoology there but, of course, it is not even considered here. I then had to end up coming back home to TX because my dad, who paid for my college then, bailed on my finances and I couldn't afford to pay out-state tuition by myself. I then went to UTA to pursue nursing and because my dad once again promised to help me out since I was back in a state school. This is where I took chem, micro, and A&PI. Once again, my dad bailed on me and I was stuck trying to figure out how to pay off 4000 so I could get my application and finish my pre-reqs at TCC. It took a year to do this and then I finally got my precious application and went to TCC and fell in love with the nursing program (atleast from what I know about it) and am completely doing it on my own. So basically, all of yalls posts about how hard it was for you to come back to school or finish to get to this point is really aspiring to me. Thank you for posting!!
It seems like everyone on here has a huge want and drive to be in the nursing program.. and hopefully that will result in getting accepted into the program!! These next couple of months are going to be insanely difficult to get through!! I'm really trying to stay positive.... and hope that our applicant pool is not as competitive as we are.
Good job to everyone who aced the TEAS! I just took mine today and I am so disappointed with my Score. I have a 4.0 GPA in the Sciences, but I now have to deal with a 70% TEAS score...... I guess I'll have to keep my fingers and toes crossed until May. Wishing everyone the best in your future endeavors.
Ohyeah!21, don't be embarrassed. If what we are told is true and the national average has dropped 10%, then had you taken the previous test you most likely would have marked an 80%. Has anyone who's taken both the Form A and Form B ATI online practice tests noticed one being harder than the other? If you took both, do you think it was worth it? I took Form A today and while I got 100% on reading and 96.7% on math, I only got 79.2% on the science and because of a stinkin' 44.4% on the spelling/punctuation subtest, only 80% in English/language usage (my former best subject!). My TEAS is Tuesday and I'll study the Topics To Review list the practice test generated for me, but I would hate to hear that the other practice test is harder. I will probaby buy the Form B anyway, just to see more of the types of questions they like to give, but would appreciate anyone's experiences of both/either practice tests and whether taking both affected your TEAS score. WHEW!!!
Thanks for any info and hope to see you in AUGUST!
3wishes: I took both practice exams on the ATI website. I pretty much made the same score each time (one point difference). In my opinion, they are about equal. I studied only the ATI book version 5 and then took the practice exams to tune up on things. The practice exams in the ATI book are also very useful. The ATI definitely prepared me for the TEAS and especially seeing the format of the practice tests on line. The science portion really is all over the place on the exam but if you breathe and read the questions carefully you will be fine. The science was my lowest section on all practice exams and on the TEAS (81% in science with the average for TCC about a 56% in science.) I noticed that most people are here said their actual TEAS score was about 10 points higher than their practice exams scores. That held true for me.. I was scoring about a 74 on the online practice exams and ended up with a 85.3% on the real deal.
Good luck!!!!! and yes, hopefully see you in august!!
My stats were:
Online practice A: 66
TEAS :74.7
I did terrible on math and science on the practice exam, so I studied those a lot. On th ereal deal I did really well on the math and science( my math score improved by 30 points). I totally messed up on th eenglish and reading on the real deal. I'm not sure what happened there, those have never been a problem before. I think I was just so nervous and worried about the math and science that i choked on the easy stuff.
I've enjoyed reading evryone's posts here and I think we would all make a great group for the fall 2011 nursing program! Good Luck!
I just turned in my application to TCC. I'm not feeling too confident about getting in at TCC this app period. I only have a 3.0 on my science classes, but did pretty well on the TEAS (85.3% the first time, and 85.9% the second). At this point I guess the only thing I can do is wait. I applied to WC also, but TCC would be my first choice. I am retaking Chem in case I don't get in to either school this time around.

I wouldn't worry about it. You have a good GPA and a good TEAS score :) They are most concerned with the science/math and you did well on those sections. The English/reading sections don't count as much.
