Tarrant County Fall 2011 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello,

I'm applying to the fall nursing program in January. I'm super excited but I still have some unanswered questions. I tried calling the Nursing Dept at the South Campus and left a message but have not heard a response.

I'm trying to find out what teas version they are testing with in the spring for fall entry. I have read tons of threads from TCC for the past few semesters and it is nice to start a new one for nursing hopefuls like me.

I'm taking Micro in the fall and getting a math class knocked out for BSN. Anyway, hope to get some responses.

I was supposed to take the TEAS on Feb 2nd, but the ice changed that. I am so thankful for that. Now I take it the 17th, and I am getting so nervous. I took the online practice test and didn't do very good. Chemistry and physics are not my strongest srea.My grades are pretty good, and I have all my classes done. All that stands in my way is the TEAS. I am trying to remain positive, but it's hard when you are so close to finding out if you get in or not. Good Luck everyone!

Trust me, we ALL understand how you feel!

Hi again everyone!

So, I was supposed to take the TEAS exam on the 9th of February, but it got moved to today because of the snow and ice last week. I just wanted to share my experience and how I did in hopes that it might help any of you.

First of all, I started studying for the exam about 2 months in advance. I worked a little at a time, focusing a lot on the Science portion. I also forked over the $35 to take the online practice exam. DO NOT LET THE PRACTICE EXAM SCARE YOU! These online practice exams were WAY harder than the actual thing in my opinion. Just study the practice questions in the ATI Study Guide and you'll do fine. On the day of the test, make sure you take water or something with you. Also, don't be afraid to get up and stretch a bit between sections because I know I felt myself starting get tired, which can negatively impact your scores.

As for my scores, I made an 85.3% overall, which ends up putting me in the 98th percentile. It doesn't sound that great, but compared to the program and national averages, I cannot complain. My breakdown of percentile rankings ended up being:

Reading: 92%

Math: 88%

Science: 99%

English: 91%

I'm hoping these scores with a 4.0 GPA will be enough!

Just study, study, study! I'm sure you guys will all do great. Now comes the looooong wait until May. BOOOO!

Congrats on your scores! I just took my TEAS this morning. I did pretty good on the math and science (88% and 92% percentile), however I cannot say the same for the english section. I did terrible. Not sure what happened. I was very nervous and pretty worked up. I just hope that doesnt keep me out of the program. All I can do is wait and see.

Good Job guys. While I was not completely satisfied with my TEAS scores, seeing the national average gave me a lot more confidence. The teas score plays a role but as the advisor told me at the south campus, a good overall GPA on the sciences is also extremely important. Now on to the worst part, waiting until the end of April. GOOD LUCK and KIT.

Oh, the advisor also told me that the amount of applicants can also change.....100 students is not yet set into stone.

When I called they said they were planning on accepting 130 applicants. I guess it could be only 100??? I really hope i make it in; I don't want to have to go through this wait a second time. Good Luck everyone.

130 is a lot better than 100. Let's just hope it does not change. Oh, and the secretary also told me that there aren't a whole lot of applications in yet which is a little odd but that they tend to pour in at the very last day. I also do not want to have to do this whole thing again either.

I don't think I would be disappointed with a smaller than normal pool of applicants. But there were several people taking the TEAS today who had yet to drop their applications off. This wait is going to drive me crazy. Does anyone know if there is a specific score on a subsection that would automatically throw you out of the pool??? Or is it just the top 100-130 regardless of the scores?

They have a spreadsheet, and the spreadsheet ranks the applicants based on whatever secret formula TCC has. They literally take the top 100 or 130 students, whichever they decide they are admitting for that semester.

According to a thread I found for Fall 2009 TCC applicants, letters were starting to hit mailboxes on May 1st last year. The waiting game is my least favorite part. I survived it last semester, I will somehow manage to survive it again this semester.

Good Luck everyone!

Wouldn't it be nice if we could know their secret formula? Why is it all a secret?

Hey guys! I've been reading these threads for a week or so now and just got all my stuff set up to actually be able to contribute! I'm a TCC fall 2011 applicant and very anxious.

I took my TEAS test today.. got a 85.3% overall which sounded bad to me until I saw the national/program average. my score landed me in the 98th percentile. I studied the verison 3/4 book for a couple weeks and then realized they changed the test after reading one of these threads.. so I quickly switched the version 5. I hope everyone does great on their TEAS!! I am so nervous about this wait.. I have a 3.5 science GPA and have many nursing courses taken at my two previous universities but am taking PHED in summer (I thought my PHED class transferred, but it didn't :( ). I'm sooo nervous though!!!

I just want to tell everyone not to base yourself off of everyone else and all these "conditions". Yes, it is important to do very well on the science and math portion of the TEAS and your science GPA is HUGE but believe in yourself. My best friend is currently in her second semester of TCC nursing school and she got in with a 3.5 science and a 73% overall on TEAS with science and math being in the high 70's. she also applied to the program while taking PHED so it technically counted as her not having it done. Her mom also applied with her and got in without having all three of the classes you don't have to have done.. granted she did have a 3.75 science and 83 overall on TEAS. (They both took the version 3/4 of the TEAS and applied for fall 2010 admission)

WE CAN DO THIS!!!!!.. hopefully!.. :uhoh21:

It would be nice to have more transparency in the selection process, but I guess we just have to wait and know we have done our best. I work in a hospital and we had a nurse manager who applied five times to TCC before she got in. I was so upset with my TEAS scores yesterday, but I'm gonna remain positive and pray that I did well enough. I have a 3.75 in science, and if I don't make it in this time I will retake Micro this summer to get the A to give me a 4.0 for next time. I did good on science and math. Somehow I really messed up on the english section. I hope that doesn't keep me out. Wish I new how much the english section mattered.
