Tarrant County Fall 2011 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello,

I'm applying to the fall nursing program in January. I'm super excited but I still have some unanswered questions. I tried calling the Nursing Dept at the South Campus and left a message but have not heard a response.

I'm trying to find out what teas version they are testing with in the spring for fall entry. I have read tons of threads from TCC for the past few semesters and it is nice to start a new one for nursing hopefuls like me.

I'm taking Micro in the fall and getting a math class knocked out for BSN. Anyway, hope to get some responses.

Dreamer, thanks for the information. I have passed the info along. I'm glad you don't have to take it again. I would have loved to be in your shoes. :)

While I'm not completely satisfied with my TEAS scores, they are good enough to get me in based on the ones that were accepted from the applicant pool last semester. Now, I do realize that the applicant pool is different every semester. It was truly a tough decision, but I think my odds are better off if I stick with my original scores and not try to retake the exam.

Do you guys know if you take the TEAS at TCC does Weatherford "know" that you have taken it once already, or vice versa if you take it at Weatherford does TCC "know"? Or do they not know you have taken it until you turn in your score? I seem to remember that Weatherford requires a month between test dates (2 tests per 6 month period), or is that a requirement from ATI testing? Can't see anything about a waiting period on their website. I'll call the testing center Monday, but hope someone already knows! Thanks for any info!

I'm not sure how you could keep either school from finding out, because they both use the ATI tests and can easily log in and pull your scores. That being said, I do know that as of last semester, you could take the TEAS test twice in a testing period at WC with a 7 day wait in between tests. TCC only allows you to take the test twice your entire collegiate career. I'm not sure if that rule only applies to TEAS tests taken on their campus, or the number of TEAS tests taken all together.

I know this can all be very confusing, so my suggestion would be to call the Nursing Dept secretaries at both schools to get a straight answer.

Thanks, Dreamer. I will call. At an information session at Weatherford I asked if the scores were automatically sent from the testing center and the answer was no. After the test, they give you a hard copy that has to be turned in to complete the application. It would be good to take the test at each location, and assuming one score was better, turn that one in to both colleges! BUT I want to know if TCC has some problem with that.

Just FYI, when you print the hard copy of the test, it does say on the test 1 of 1, 1 of 2, or 2 of 2.

if you don't mind me asking, how many points do you have now?

I take my TEAS on Monday. NERVOUS! I'm going in with 9 points. I am wondering how well I need to do on the TEAS to feel "good" about it. I have studied so hard and still feel I am barely scraping the surface.

I am also applying to TCC for Fall 2011, and I am so nervous! I was supposed to take the TEAS today, but it was cancelled due to weather. I am most nervous about the science portion. Anyone have any tips? I've completed all of my prereqs, and turned in my app. The TEAS is all I have left. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I guess I can't PM untill I have 15 posts??? Have you taken the TEAS yet? I've heard the new version is more difficult.

Sorry about that, I didn't know. Yes, took it Jan. 31st. Got a 77% and I'm prepping to take it again.

Here is my advice...

Be as strong as you can on the Reading, Language, and Math. If you can do well on the paper practices and the online practices you will do well on the real deal. Work on speed and confidence in math. I ran out of time because I didn't feel confident enough in myself and checked my work on each problem (I did not change any and got 100% on Algebra, AND math is NOT my strong point!).

For the science, just go in and do your best. There really is no advice I can give you to prepare for it. Its a lot of deductive reasoning and chemistry. I got a 69%, and plan to get it up a little by getting stronger in the chemistry. Every question is not hard. Some are so easy they are silly.

GOOD LUCK!

Thank you so much! I went and got the McGraw Hill Nursing Entrance Study guide. It has a better Science section than the ATI book. I am going to focus on the chem section, as that seems to be my weakness at the moment. On this test you just get points for the right answers and do not lose points for incorrect answers, is that correct?

Thanks Again!

Its like any regular test you would take. Get a 100 right, your grade will be 100. Get 90 our of 100 right, you'll get a 90%. :)
