No, I am not certified in my area. However, I would like to be. I am doing a search to find out the particulars on my specialty. I am in cardiac nursing, but I need the focus to be on preventitive teaching.
Anyone have any ideas as to where that test is?

Yes, I'm a CCRN. I did it initially 25 years ago to prove to myself that I was intelligent and knew what I was doing; I've let it lapse off and on through the years but have maintained the certification for about the past 8 or 10 years. It's lots easier to maintain it than to retest each time.

No, I am not certified in my specialty. I just transferred to ICU from med-surg and want to obtain my CCRN eventually but they require that you have so many hours of bedside care of critically ill patients. Once I am off orientation, I will be floated out to the med-surg floors and probably will get very little critical care experience under my belt. The other ICU RN's have way more seniority than I do so I can't bump them. Plus we don't take turns as to who gets floated out to the floor. One of the downsides of being a member of a bargaining unit. So, I have decided that once I am off orientation, I am going to apply for a job in a larger hospital in a nearby town for their ICU. I only work 3 days a week at my current job so I figure I can handle working one day a week somewhere else.

Not yet. Every time I pull out the book to study, I get pregnant. I'm taking a break for a while.

I took the certification erxam in my specialty the first time they offered it in my city, and maintained it until I retired. My hospital did offer funds to assist with the cost ($300 if i remember correctly), and offered a bonus to certified nurses--$500 per year. That just about covered the cost of the CEUs needed to maintain the certification! I felt that I really benefited from the sessions and from contact with others in my specialty outside of my hospital--other institutions, doctor's offices and clinics, both in my city and from other locations.

Yes. Took 27 credits through BCITs perinatal nursing specialty courses and then wrote the exam.

I'm a CCRN for about 12 years now, been doing critical care for about 15. I enjoy going to all the critical care updates in the area every year, so it's easy to keep up the CEU's in these parts.

B.Scheduled to take the ANCC test in May for Board Certification Med/Surg Generalist Nurse.....
Any hints on how to study for this.. anyone?
I ordered the Med/Surg Certification review book. There is a new one out in April. I plan to read and tape for my long car drives.
ANCC has tapes but are very expensive ($240.00)
I also have Laura Gasparis Vonfrolio's tape on Day 2 CCRN Review which is very helpful.
