SUNY-Downstate summer '09--Introduce yourselves please!

Published

From the pre-nursing board there were a number of us waiting to hear from Downstate, and by now quite a few have been accepted!

So please, introduce yourselves here in the Nursing Student forum, and let's continue the discussion as we prepare to start classes in 3 months.

Where are you holding so far? Medical clearance, CPR, supplies, figuring out your finances and schedules for the next year... let's discuss!

I was in the health office today to get the PPD. They looked pretty busy with all the students coming in from all fields, may be that's why they are not picking up.

Chaya, what are your holds?

Sorry I wasn't more clear, there is a list with the admissions checklist that has outstanding health forms pre reqs and what have you. Once you log in on the admissions page click on the 'Admissions/Health' heading under checklist and scroll down. Hope you can find some answers. I went in today to hand in my missing form and they make you wait for a bit but you can get them to check it just there, my list has already been updated.

good luck!

I need a second HepB shot and a polio titer test (if that exists). I have a PPD form but it might be out of date--I had it done back in September. I also did one on my recent health checkup but I waited too long to check the results so the test is invalid. :(

If I want all this done at the health office, do I need to make an appointment? Or just show up? Nobody has been answering the phone all week at student health.

ChayaN,

Maybe you can try to e-mail Health Services... [email protected]

I've just sent an e-mail. Hopefully someone will reply by early next week!?

Have you tried to contact you previous schools or maybe even high school to see if they have your immunization records?

I just called my high school and was surprised when the nurse told me that she had my immunization records on file, including the polio vaccine.

I think I'll just go down one day next week and see what I can sort out. I don't think they can put a hold on registration if I've already started the HepB series.

I didn't think of contacting my HS, but considering the hassle I had just to release my transcripts I might want to leave that option alone! I'd rather take a blood test if it's available.

Okay, Chaya here is what they told me when I called them a month ago: you can not register without your second Hep B shot. It is usually done 30 days after your first one (I got mine done today). Also, when I told them that the paperwork of my Polio was lost after I moved to US, they told me to write a letter stating that I have received Polio vaccine in childhood in another country but the papers are lost. I have dropped off the letter today, the nurse seemed surprised but after I told her that's what they told me on the phone, she accepted it. Doesn't matter when was your last PPD you have to get one at SUNY (I got mine today also, I have to come back Monday for them to read it). Without all this paperwork I couldn't register, that is why I advise you to write the same letter, get your second shot and come to the health office to get their PPD.

Oh, I didn't know they only accept the PPD done through the school. I thought they didn't accept the one from my dr's office because I waited 3 days to check it.

yep, I checked the PPD at my doctor's on time, but they still had a red cross on the website next to the "PPD". So I called asking if there was something I did wrong, so they told me that they require 2 PPDs, one done at your MD's and for the second one you have to come to student health office at Downstate.

Hi Durable. Im registering today for classes. Do you have any Professor's who you preferred over others?

Just a gentle reminder not to post names of instructors on your course as per terms of service

It didn't seem like there is much choice of professors, except for one class that has a Monday and a Friday section. Seems like for the most part we'll all be taking the same classes together.

Yes I just realized that there is not much choice for the Professors. We only register for the first summer session right?

Hey there,

A little confused here...I had a Hep B shot years ago. Then I recently got a booster shot in March. I need one more to complete the series. Does that mean that I can't register until I get the 3rd shot (which, incidentally, I can't get until May cuz you have to wait 2 months)?

Thanks
