SUNY-Downstate summer '09--Introduce yourselves please!

From the pre-nursing board there were a number of us waiting to hear from Downstate, and by now quite a few have been accepted!

So please, introduce yourselves here in the Nursing Student forum, and let's continue the discussion as we prepare to start classes in 3 months.

Where are you holding so far? Medical clearance, CPR, supplies, figuring out your finances and schedules for the next year... let's discuss!

I went to my doctor's office and took a blood test that should prove polio immunity. It will take 9 days to get the results. I hope they don't put a hold on registration until then...

Thanks, Lena but I just tried to register and apparently I do have a hold b/c of that 3rd Hep B shot.

Do you have all 3 shots completed Lena? Were you able to register?

That's ridiculous. I can't get another HepB shot for 30 days; classes will start by then!

what about the second ppd, do you have to go and get one at downstate?

no i only received two shots. the thing is first you get one shot, then a month later you get the second. then after 6 months you get the third. the student health dept can't wait until my last shot, as it will be done in sept 2009, so they took my hold off. i did not register yet, i will do it tonight.

Not only is it ridiculous but it completely unfair and arbritrary. If i understand this correctly, I cannot register because my 3rd shot falls within the registration period, so therefore I have to wait but b/c you (Lena) can't get it before registration is up then you can. Oh no, that's not going to work for me at all. I keep calling the Health office and getting voicemail...Argggghhhh.

I'm all for protocal when it is logical, but this is just stupid!

They need a better system.

Oh, and I forgot. I got the PPD done with my private doctor and they accepted it so I don't know why they would tell you otherwise. It seems they're a little inconsistent.

wow, and they made such a big deal to me about coming in for that second ppd!

i also had it done at my doctor, and it was totally fine. but no, i had to take a day off from work, coming there, paying for parking, then coming back today to get it read, paying for parking again, taking half a day sick at work... ridiculous!

Well I did have to take a second PPD--the reason they gave me is because I was born out of the country (never mind that I have lived in the US since I'm an infant). I did that today. Fortunately I live close to Downstate so it wasn't that much of an inconvenience.

I had 2 HepB shots already, I guess they won't make me wait for a 3rd if I can't get it done before 6 months. I remember seeing something in the registration forms that you only need 2 to register.

Hello all!

Just stumbled across this site and am very happy to find it. I'm really looking forward to starting soon after waiting for so long.

As far as I can tell, we only need the first 2 Hep B shots to be able to register. I also heard nothing about needing to do the PPD at Downstate. Mine wasn't accepted but they told me it was because it was at the end of August and therefore not within 6 months exactly....arrgghhh! Finally got the second one done and will have the second Hep B tomorrow so I hope to register Wednesday.

Yes I just realized that there is not much choice for the Professors. We only register for the first summer session right?

Hmm, I am not sure, but I registered for the whole summer.

The schedule has all the classes we need, so why not register at once?

I am even thinking of registering for the fall as well... :wink2:

Hey Lena,

Did you register for clinicals for the second summer session? I didn't see a place to sign up or a code or anything so I assume it is included in NRBS 341, but I figured I'd check.
