From the pre-nursing board there were a number of us waiting to hear from Downstate, and by now quite a few have been accepted!
So please, introduce yourselves here in the Nursing Student forum, and let's continue the discussion as we prepare to start classes in 3 months.
Where are you holding so far? Medical clearance, CPR, supplies, figuring out your finances and schedules for the next year... let's discuss!
I am brushing up on my A&P. I also have some old nursing textbooks (the ones for school didn't come yet) and I've been reading through them, but I think the A&P is most helpful. My basic math is fine. I don't really need practice in decimals, percents and fractions.
As far as pharma goes, whenever there's a section in A&P that discusses drugs and their effects, I pay extra-close attention. I also pay attention to injection sites, names of muscles, veins, major body landmarks, that sort of thing.
I am taking A& II this semester but I am finding it hard to concentrate on the class beacuse I have been taking 17 credits this semester -- all science courses. I will have a 2 week break before starting the RN program at Downstate so hopefully I will be able to start reading the summer books ahead of time.
duarble,
thank you so much for your help! time to study our behinds off is coming and we appreciate all the advice we can get!
fml814,
i am also finishing my a&p ii this semester. yesterday i have found a thread on this site where old downstate students were complaining that the admissions wanted to revoke their place in class because students did not submit their final grades before june 1st. so make sure you let them know, or send them a final transcript as soon as you can.
my final for that class is going to be on june 2nd or 3rd. so in my case i have to submit to downstate a letter from my professor written on a department letterhead saying that i am currently registered in that class and if it looks like i am passing.
Hi, I am also finishing up some pre-reqs. Do you know how we go about registration if we do not have final transcripts? We may have a hold on our accounts. I am waiting for a reply from admissions as to what my next step is. Does the letter from your Prof allow you to register?
I have been so worried about this!
Any information would help!
=) Lisa
I just logged into my admissions account and discovered I am missing one form, you should have received your login via email when you were accepted so no need to keep calling.
I think the pre-reqs shouldn't stop registration, on the forms in the acceptance package it says we have until June 30 to submit the final transcripts. The email was a bit confusing but I am pretty sure the hold relates to health clearance.
Yes, I agree.
From what I understood after reading all letters and e-mails, only if you have holds on your Medical paperwork you will not be able to register. Like your second PPD from Downstate or missing Polio vaccine.
To check if you have holds you should log into the system using a screen name and password they've mailed you.
They will also mail us letters where we have to check if we are getting the school's health insurance or if we have our own.
I have also called financial aide yesterday asking how do I know that my loans came in. I have checked the amount I want to borrow, then signed the premissory note online and I think that's all I've done. They told me that once the loans come in it takes a while to get the certification and paperwork done, so I will know once I get my bill on June 1st. I guess if there was a problem they would contact me?.. I hope...
I did not get the email with a username and password. I have the username and password to for the admissions checklist but I don't know if it's the same. I also don't see a link for new students on the registrar page that was linked to in the email.
I have no way of clearing the holds if I can't reach anyone in the health office.
Sorry I wasn't more clear, there is a list with the admissions checklist that has outstanding health forms pre reqs and what have you. Once you log in on the admissions page click on the 'Admissions/Health' heading under checklist and scroll down. Hope you can find some answers. I went in today to hand in my missing form and they make you wait for a bit but you can get them to check it just there, my list has already been updated.
good luck!

thanks for the heads up. I am currently enrolled in an LPN program and have recently reviewed a an entire dosage calculation book. My current LPN class is very broad and doesn't go too much into details on assessment or nursing notes. The test questions are hard but I found that the NCLEX study guides are very helpful.
